Shaun Had gone out on his date with sopie. Shaun had called Jess when he got home, he told her she liked sopie she was a pretty good girl. Jess was happy for him. Sorta.
The next day shaun had woken up Jess and they went to the park to shoot hoops. The group of guys who were there the other day were playing, Shaun asked if they could split the court up. and they did. Jess was full of energy. and something else neither of them could figure out. Jess was shooting 3 pointers with out a care in the world. she made all of them. Shaun was ammused. Shaun brought up sopie. He told Jess that they were going on another date. Jess said oh cool, and shot at half court, the guys at the other end were quite ammused too.
After Jess finally got tired. Shaun got a phone call from sopie, Jess sat down agains the pole to the basket. her feet flat hugging her knees, the boy who got the nerve to talk to her the other day sat by her. He started the conversation.
" You were pretty good, you on the team?"
"Haven't tried out yet."
"I don't understand why, you're amazing."
" You won't understand why either, Look I'm sorry."
"No, it's okay. Umm I ment to ask you this the last time i saw you but, Uh do you want to go on a date with me?"
Jess was looking at the ground biting her cheek, she turned her head to face him. "Sure."
"Oh I'm Zach by the way."
"Jessicamae."
He held his hand out and helped her up.
Shaun got off the phone, and started walking back to Jess's house. When they turned the corner Jess's house was in sight. the new neighbors were at her door. "Oh shit"
the neighbors turned around as to walk back to their house. when The father notices Jess. "Jessica!" He yelled
Jess walked faster so the father didn't have to look like a total idiot running to her.
Hey there Jessica, Um we would like to invite you to our bar-b-q. Show this to your parents and hope to see you there." he walked away.
she pasted the rest of the family as she walked to her house.
shaun got to her doorstep, like always hugged her, said "talk to you in a sec"
and as he said he did.
*The next day*
Shaun and jess went to the park agian, just like every other day. Today, Just Zach was there. before Shaun started shooting. Zach gave jess a piece of paper. he was about to walk off when jess asked him if he wanted to stay, and shoot hoops with her ans shaun. Then shaun said, "actually I can't sopie wants to see me. so I'll see you later JessyMae." Gave her a hug and peck on the cheek.
"well, I guess it's just you and me. Jess said.
Zach really felt bad. " Yeah, I actually wish it was. My Mom needs me home, I'm sorry."
As he walked off she opened the note. His number. shoved it in her pocket. Well, that was fun. and decided to shoot hoops by her self. she found her self singing "Wings" By Mackelmore. She and Shaun had listened to it. It fit her life. She flashed back to when Zach approached her, and how rude she ws about joining the team.
The reason she snapped at her was when Her mom was still alive and her moms dream for her was to play basketball. Her mom played when she was her age and younger. When Jess was 7 she finally got the feeling of how to dribble, and pass and shoot. like the song wings. as the boy touched the net, Jess made a 3 point. at age 7. She was so happy, and so was her mom. everyday she was out there shooting, and playing with her mom. and sometimes having Shaun play. When Jess's mom died. all jess did was sit on her bed and cry. and look at the basketball her and her mom passed back and fourth. Jess finally pulled herself together. she had the ball and became better than that hopeless girl who lost her mom. Shaun wached as she improved over time Shaun was known best on the team, but she was better than him, off the court. she never tried out because the way she looked her dyed hair. that's not who her mom was. Everyone suspected her to be just like her mom. sometimes coaches from everywhere who had heard of her mom had watched her in the park. suprised. Jess saw them. didn't make a scene. She just did what she, and her mother knew she could do.
