Once the nurses were notified about Sjin waking up, they started to get him used to moving again almost immediatley. There was only one problem; When he had been hit by the car, his spine had been damaged, meaning there was a chance of him never walking again. I was horrified by the news, but Sjin was determined to prove them wrong. Within a few days of waking up, he was trying to walk, although it caused him agony. I hated seeing him like this, and pleaded with him to try and find another way to move around.
"I can't Minty, I refuse to give up." He would simply reply with. It was times like this when I hated his need to prove people wrong, but I didn't care. All I really wanted now was for him to get better. Hannah, Lewis, Nilesy and Sips came often to give moral support, and to bring things for him. He appreciated their company, but all he really wanted now was to leave this damned place. It took months of agony and pleads before Sjin began to make progress. He started to move around, walking small lengths at a time, but it was better than nothing. Little by little, he got stronger, until he was able to walk properly, with only small support from myself.
A new term at school started, and everyone was at the gates to greet us. Sjin had to use crutches as he still wasn't completely used to walking for a long time, but he was there. The first person to approach him was Duncan. He walked up to Sjin and looked down, avoiding his eyes. I opened my mouth to say something, but was cut off by Duncan.
"I didn't mean for this to happen. I-I just.. I'm sorry. It was wrong and I shouldn't have tried to kiss Minty, or this wouldn't have happened." He said, his voice quiet and full of regret. Sjin sighed and nodded his head.
"I know you didn't want this to happen to me, it doesn't matter now. I'm gonna be alright." Sjin replied with a smile. Duncan met Sjin's eyes for a second and they began walking down the hall together, talking about machinery, like nothing had happened. I laughed and followed them, joining in their conversation.
The day was over, and I waited by the gates for Sjin. He came up behind me and kissed my cheek, making me jump. I laughed and kissed him back, leaving the school gates as Sjin, Duncan and the rest followed. It was going to be a long walk home.
