It was the last day before christmas break and the winter was beginning to set in. The school bell rang and I shot out of her chair, fixing the small flower in my hair before pulling on my coat and scurrying off to meet Sjin outside the school building. He was already there when I left the building, and I skipped down the steps and into his warm embrace. He laughed at my cheerful attitude as usual and we began the long walk home. It was cold and quite tiring walking home, but I didn't mind as he was by my side. We talked about how our days went and how we couldn't wait for Christmas. Then it took an unlikely turn. Lewis, Hannah, Simon and Duncan showed up, asking if they could join us. Sjin agreed reluctantly, he knew how Duncan felt for me. I leaned up and kissed his cheek, reassuring him that I was still his. We continued walking until the others had to leave to go seperate ways. Sjin smiled and waved goodbye to the others, Duncan being the only one that continued to linger.

"Um Minty" He muttered. I turned to look at him and sighed, laughing slightly.

"Yes Dunc?" I questioned, Sjin tapping his foot impatiently. He walked closer to me and my eyes widened as he leaned in to kiss me. I pulled away, leaving him dissapointed. Sjin growled and walked over, standing infront of me protectively. Duncan backed away slightly as Sjin swung at him, just striking his face.

"Sjin! Stop!" I shouted and he turned to look at me. Duncan ran off down his street, disappearing into an alleyway and leaving me and Sjin alone once again.

"Your sticking up for him now are you?" Sjin growled, obvious annoyance in his voice.

"No, it's not like that, I love you Sjin!" I said back, causing his expression to soften slightly.

"Look, just leave it alright, i'll see you later." He replied before turning away and walking out into the road without paying attention. Before I could tell him to stop, a large truck came hurtling towards him, the brakes screaching in an attempt to stop. The truck did manage to stop, but it was too late. Sjin lay limp on the ground, his eyes closed and his clothes bloodied. I ran out to him, collapsing on my knees and crying into his chest, listening to his shallow heartbeat. I heard someone call out about an ambulance and within a few minutes I could hear the sirens, although it felt like an age. I held tight onto his cold hands as they placed him on a stretcher and carried him off. I climbed into the ambulance, ignoring their protests. They gave in and closed the doors to the ambulance and I leaned down and kissed his forehead.

"I'm sorry, I love you Sjin" I managed to choke out through my tears, before we began the journey to the hospital.
