My mother is perceived as the warm-hearted wife and generous Queen. My father is the open-minded husband and brave King. In reality their marriage is just a show to the public. The person I care about the most is my older brother Nicolei. He's been my idol for most of my life, especially when I turned 15.

Nicolei was the only person who didn't sugarcoat the real world and told me how the kingdom worked. Although he's next in line for the throne he still takes the liberty in taking care of me and teaching me about the flaws of the government. To the eyes of the public we have the perfect life but, Nicolei and I know better.

"Leya!" someone called with an excited voice.

"Coming!" I called back already aware of who it was. I ran down the stairs and into the arms of my big brother.

"I've missed you so much Nic. I thought that you wouldn't be back until next month?!" I cried into his shoulder.

"I wanted to surprise you Leya." he said softly.

"Well this is more than enough to surprise me!" I exclaimed.

I heard him chuckle before someone cleared their throat. Nicolei placed me down and stood abruptly. I turned to see where Nicolei was staring but, to say that I was surprised would be a huge understatement. There by the front door was a girl close to Nic's age. She looked like she had just walked out of clown school but, since I'm a princess I can't say everything that's on my mind. I guess I was staring for a long time because Nicolei nudged my shoulder a little bit.

"Analeya this is my fiancee' Susan, Susan this is my little sister Analeya." he introduces us warmly. Susan walked towards me a little and held her hand out.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Princesa." she said with a smirk. I grabbed her hand and curtsied as politely as possible.

"The pleasure is all mine Susan." I replied sweetly. I threw Nic a worried glance before regaining my posture.

"Would you excuse us Susan? I have some things that I need to discuss with Nicolei." I asked her firmly. To my surprise she moved closer to Nicolei and, wrapped her arms around him.

"Whatever it is you can say it in front of the both of us." she replied confidently. I looked at Nicolei in disbelief before taking a deep breath. Smoothing out the wrinkles in my dress I look back up at her.

"This is a private matter Susan. So would you please excuse us?" I asked once again getting frustrated the slightest bit. Susan rolled her eyes in annoyance but, Nicolei whispered something into her ear that made her smirk at me before stomping away.

I rolled my eyes before directing my attention back to Nicolei who was staring after Susan like a lost puppy.

"How long have you known her Nicolei? What do you think her intentions are?" I ask in a serious tone. He then turned his back to me and laughed a bit.

"I never thought that you would end up looking after me. I thought it was the other way around." he said with a small smile. I grinned thinking about how the roles changed. Then my eyes started to fill with water thinking about how my brother was going to rule the kingdom and, I'd have to see Susan everyday when it's obvious that I dislike her very much.

"You're just changing the subject! Answer my questions." I demand. Nicolei paces for a little while before sitting on the stairs. He pats the spot beside him motioning for me to sit down. I hesitate for a second because I could see the hurt expression in his eyes but, manage to sit down anyways.

"You're a big girl now Leya and that means that you're going to witness changes throughout our lives up front. I'm being forced into an arranged marriage to Susan because she's the Princess of Arponious' Kingdom. I've known about this since I was 7 but,I refused to let them tell my innocent 4 year old sister who she's going to marry one day. I thought I could change our fates. I thought that I could protect you from everything bad. Now I know I've failed because you've had to grow up without mom, dad, and I. And I'm.....I'm so sorry Leya." he explained crying towards the end.

I began to feel bad because not only is everything he said true but, it made sense to me. All of this would soon happen to me at the age of 18. This isn't what I wanted my life to be like not at such a young age.

"Nic you have nothing to be sorry about. Yes, I'm naive and scared of what's to come but, I've figured out how everything works out in our lives. You've been a great big brother and I'm going to miss growing up with you." I say quietly. Nic looks up at me a smiles softly and ruffles my hair.

"Nic do you think we still have time to change our fates?" I ask thoughtfully. He stands up and holds a hand out to help me up.

"I hope so little sis, I hope so." he replies.
