It’s been about a week since the family met Susan but, my mom can’t seem to stop gushing over her.

“Nicolei dear, we chose such a great girl for you!” she beamed.

Everyone else didn’t seem to notice that Nic cringed at the thought of Susan but I did. I’m a little upset that my mom would rather talk about Susan than my 16th birthday that’s in a couple of days. Though this is one of the sacrifices us royal children make. Like all family holidays my parents are usually talking about the government system in our kingdom rather than spend time with our family.

“Hey Leya, your birthday is coming up!” Nic whisper-shouted in my ear smiling. I nodded excitedly at that remembering how he was the only one that always remembered it.

As I walk into the kitchen I wave to Bianca, our chef throughout the day, and I grab an apple to take to my room. After that I decided to take a nap before supper tonight. As I’m sleeping I have a flashback about what happened on my 6th birthday:

“Hurry up Leya!” my excited big brother yelled.

I run out of my room wearing my favorite rose pink dress that had lots of bows on it along with my white flats. As I finish running down the stairs I expected to see all of my family members surrounded by a cake singing to me. Instead my mom was with her friends talking about another little girl with blonde hair and, my dad was out hunting with my uncles. Nicolei tried to cheer me up by giving me a cupcake instead of a cake and, he gave me my birthday present from him. When I opened the box it was a diamond bracelet that had the words ‘World’s Best Little Sister’ engraved on the side. I was still crying but, I knew that my big brother still remembered me that day.

After I woke up I took a quick shower, brushed my teeth, and changed into a flowy emerald gown with a pair of matching heels. Then I let my hair cascade down my back in waves. I'm hoping that my family will talk about something other than Susan during supper.
