It all began in primary school, with the three of us. Rafael, Polaris, and I. We were the best of friends. Every day after school we would play games in treehouse that our backyards shared entrance to. Polaris and his trusty sidekick, Raf, always attempting to save me, a damsel in distress, from capture. That was only one of the many imaginary scenes we laid out.
Soon enough we grew up, and the treehouse turned into our escape. Games changed and were only available on phones, and our lack of happiness from the underworld was replaced by the only thing we continued to play, music. We spent more time up there than with our own families. We became each other's family. The thing is, when you spend that much time with each other, someone is bound to fall in love. So that's what happened.
One of the boys fell in love with the girl, and the girl fell for one of the boys. Now your question is probably, was she caught when she fell? The answer to that is yes, she was caught. As the days slipped by, Raf began participating in more extra-curricular activities, and Polaris and I spent that time alone in our little escape. Of course, at that age none of us really knew what love was. But despite that, Polaris and I grew incredibly fond of each other.
I still remember the day that he asked me out. It was during the last week of our 8th grade year. Raf and I were goofing off, while Polaris was presenting for our English class. Polaris was about to talk about the slide when something about it caught my eye.
It read, "This type of thing doesn't normally grow on trees, but I guess it did for you and me. Will you go out with me, Annabella?" I was filled with so much excitement that I didn't realize he had handed me a bouquet of carnations, my favorite flower. In a whirlwind of emotions, I simply nodded my head.
Little did I know, just how important he would be in my life story.
