The last thing I want to hear this morning is my wretched alarm clock, but here it is beeping and screaming at me to get out of bed for my last first day of high school. Not just any high school, a new high school.

Over the summer my aunt moved my twin brother and I out to Beacon Hills, California. She couldn't stand living in our house, not after my parents died. It's been almost an entire year now. I'm still hurt, but my brother is taking it worse than me. He has hardly left his room all summer. My aunt tires to reach out to him but he just pushes her away. That's only because she lets him.

I get up out of bed and knock on his door. "Cameron, it's time." I let myself in and quickly throw a hand up over my nose. He has been very low maintenance all summer, resorting in a messy appearance and even messier room. He raises his head and his long, dark brown hair is sticking up everywhere. "Please take a shower." I bend down and pick up a shirt that is definitely stained with some sort of alcohol. "And you're welcome to any of my makeup if you'd like to make yourself look prettier." I grin at him. He mouth remains a straight line.

"Are you actually going to pretend that today is going to be a good day?" He says with a raspy voice. I sigh and throw some clothes and trash onto the ground to sit on his bed.

"Yes. I am going to pretend and pretend and pretend until I don't have to be pretending anymore. We can't keep ourselves in the dark for forever, Cam."

"You piss me off."

"I'm your older sister, it's my job." I say throwing a crumpled piece of paper at him.

"Older by three minutes."

"Still older!" I say, getting up and walking out of the room. Before I exit I stop at the door, "Seriously, shower." I shut the door behind me.

"Kids, don't forget your lunches. I packed them for you!" I kiss my aunt on the cheek. She really has been trying really hard. She has had step-children before, but that ended up not working out. She brushed her blonde bangs away from her eyes. "Good luck today, make friends. Adapt. You'll do good. I'm more worried about...' Her eyes wander to Cameron walking down the stairs. "Look how nice you look, all cleaned up." She reaches up to kiss him on the cheek and he surprisingly lets her and her eyes begin to glow. She reaches up her hand and touches his face.

"Are you wearing makeup?" She fights back a grin.

"What? No.. it's not.. no I'm not wearing makeup." He turns his face away. I giggle. She shrugs and hands him his lunch.

"Have a good day kids." She pushes us out the door.

We get into our sixteenth birthday present, a silver Ford Flex, and start on our way to our new high school.

Pulling into the parking lot, I start to examine all of the new students. The girls are stunning. the guys are good-looking. I don't know what I expected, this is California.

"So are you going to go for any of these pre-" I start to ask my brother when I realize he is already out of the car and walking towards the school. Great, looks like I'm walking into this alone.

I step out of my car and start towards the school. I take a deep breath in, examining the environment, when I trip over a crack in the sidewalk and the contents of my bag fly everywhere. I start to pick it all up when a pair of feet in red heels appears in front of me. I peer up and and see a pretty red-head looking down at me.

"Can I help you?" I ask, as she continues to stare at me.

"I think I should be asking you the same question." She retorts.

I stand up after collecting everything. "Well it's a little late for that now." I say, slightly annoyed by the rude red-head.

"You're the new girl right? Camila Alvarrez."

"Mila, and yeah... How'd you know?"

"I just figured. I'm Lydia. I'm your fairy godmother, today." She says with a smile, I force a smile back. This'll be fun.

"Your brother is with Scott. That's his guide." She points over to where my brother is standing with a tan boy with a crooked jaw. Cameron's expression is his usual careless one, as Scott tries to show him the post-board.

"Is this necessary? Like it's cool that they have you guys help and all, but can't you just show me to my locker and send me on my way?"

"No can do. I have one class today and I don't want to be bored."

I sigh. I need to make friends. "Well then I'm glad to be your entertainment."
