The keys were on the floor, the keys to unlock all of the holding cells. "Its like everyone just got up and left." I said, turning the flashlight on. Then there was a chilling moan. "Hello?" Turning the corner I felt for my Beretta. It was one of them.

I double checked that the gun was loaded, then placed my finger on the trigger and aimed straight for the head. "Nice shot." Luke said, making me drop my flashlight.

"I have a gun you know. That could've been really bad." After picking up the Dewalt, I opened the door to one of the cells.

He tapped his fingers on the desk that was labeled Sheriff. "You wouldn't have shot me. Those things don't talk anyways. Lets get out of here, before it starts to get dark." He was right. It was close to 4. Leaving about an hour to get home.

There was wanted posters and missing signs all over the bulletin board beside the door. I ran my fingers over one of the signs. One of them read, TYLER BENTLY. I quickly blurted out, "I stole something."

Luke was facing me, "what do you mean you stole something? No ones around, its technically not stealing." He let out a lose laugh, "I stole something, too."

"No." I demanded. "That's why you found me. I stole something."

I stared at his big brown eyes as he raised an eyebrow. "Do you really think anyone cares? I mean for God's sake. Everyone's dead. No one really owns anything." His tone made him sound angry. I could easily tell he had the temper of a bull.

Instead of arguing back at him, I decided to rummage through the desk drawers. As I pulled out one of the drawers, I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Lets head back." Luke said as I slowly stood up.

"A pack of cigarettes," was all I could say as we unloaded all the supplies that we gathered from the truck.

Luke stopped for a moment, "so you're one of those girls. The bad type. Do you ride a motorcycle?"

I clenched my fist, "you didn't let me finish. They were for my dad."

"Your dad?"

We had most of the things unloaded when we heard George yelling and shooting his gun. "Lets go."

I said, jogging over to where the shots were fired from.

"In the corn fields, loads of them." He was out of breath, like he was running away.

I pulled my gun out and held it in front of me, ready to shoot anything that stood in my way. I shot about three of them, using only four bullets to do so. "You have some good aim there little miss Haley." Luke teased me. He started to walk back towards the house. I squatted down beside one of them, studying their faces. The first thing that came to mind was roadkill. They were bloody and they looked like human beings. But angry, hungry.

I ran my fingers through my hair, while pacing back and forth across my room. Quickly I picked up my boots and sat down on my bed to put them on. Without fully tying them, I opened my window that faced the backyard and led into the woods. Here goes nothing, I thought. I bent my knees as I landed on my feet on the grass. Luckily I ran, a lot in highschool.

"We can't stay here long." George said, as he served us all dinner. It seemed like they had loads of grits and beans.

Everyone was on edge, hungry, and tired. "I heard about a refugee camp." Joey mumbled.

"There is no refugee camp." Luke was working on his second helping of grits. Sure they were good, but after awhile, they got boring.

Lukes brothers were young, odds are they didn't know what was happening. "We heard it on the radio. They have food, shelter-"

"We aren't going to some damn refugee camp." He was tired, more than tired.

"If there was a camp, we would have already left and been there, okay?" George stepped in to stop the two from starting a fist fight across the table.

Even though I just met the family about two weeks ago, I could point out each of there personalities and something special about them all. Luke was colorblind and had a short fuse. "I think its time for bed." George and Luke didn't seem to get along. But I don't think during an emergency like this, getting along didn't matter. This was all they had left.

As soon as Luke left the room, I finished my dinner. "Thanks for dinner, it was good." I smiled then followed the same path he went in. They lived in a big old house. Obviously whoever designed it had a good sense. All the rooms had something unique about them.

Once I got up to Luke's room, I knocked on the door. "Haley." He motioned for me to enter the room.

"What ever happened to your mom?" I blurted out.

He stood up off the bed we were sitting on. "She was beautiful." He had a big smile on his face as he took a picture off the wall and handed it to me. "The room you're sleeping in, it was my sisters." Then I handed him back the picture. She was stunning. "My mom died in labor with Cory. My sister, Maggie, would have been just about your age now. She was a little younger than you. Maggie was devastated."

Suicide. "I'm so sorry, Luke." I turned towards him and put an arm around him.

"Everything happens for a reason. We all die eventually." He smiled. Everything happens for a reason.

"Don't move another step, Haley." The officer had a gun pointed towards me. "Stealing tobacco products, destruction of property, and then running away from the crime." He let out a small laugh. "I reckon you're in a lot of trouble little missy."

I backed slowly towards a tree that was behind me, "well good luck with that." I quickly whipped out my Beretta and fired right at him and hit the officer between the eyes. "I reckon YOU'RE in a lot of trouble."

*Authors Note* Alright, so sorry that this chapter took a while to post. A day or two. But its here now! Yay! I know its not all that interesting, but you know a little bit more about Luke and Haley. There wasn't a whole lot of description of the zombies, but as promised there were zombies. So anyways, if you enjoy this story, let me know, and come back to read the next chapter. It will be out around Saturday, maybe Friday. Thanks again :D
