Smoke, Lies, and Goodbyes 7
The last month of freedom is slow and I just want it over with. I called Norman numerous times and he never picked up.
Today was the day. Today I marry the terrorist, you know, that guy I don't really like? Yeah, now I get to marry him! I roll my eyes at the thought as my mom puts the last touches on my hair and dress.
"I found this when I was washing the clothes." She hands me a folded up piece of paper and I unfold it carefully, almost afraid of what it might say. I had tried so many times to talk my father into meeting Norman, into changing his mind, but he was a firm believer in Indian customs. He needed to bring the honor back to his family for marrying my mom, an American. This is how we ended. With this stupid wedding and my life going down the drain. It's from Norman.
