A/N: This is set when Xerxes is blind. Anyway back to the 'fluffy' stuff after that weird last story. Sorry if they are OOC it was late and I wanted to write something.
The clock struck twelve midnight yet Reim Lunettes was still working hard. The bed was calling him to sleep but he knew that the paperwork was not going to do itself. Especially with Xerxes' additional work. An empty tin of candy sat on his desk, finished off quickly when concentrating. Reim sighed and sat backwards, massaging his cramping hand. Pandora Headquarters was practically empty at this time of night and the whole building was silent. Break was out on an assignment with Gil and the others. Reim felt truly alone.
Reim didn't know how much time had passed but he suddenly became aware of his door creaking open.
"What do you want?" He asked, not even bothering to check who it was. After all, there was only a handful of people it could have been. There was no reply. Reim huffed, turning around to face them.
"For goodness sake, wh-" he stopped dead. Xerxes Break stood just in front of the open door, staring blindly at Reim.
"Xerxes, you're back early." Reim commented "what can I do for you?". His tone was now a lot more gentle and soft. Again Xerxes didn't reply.
"Take a seat on my bed Xerx. Make yourself comfortable," Reim said moving to shut the door. In reply to this Xerxes turned and pushed himself into Reim causing them both to fall backwards against the door. Reim gave a startled yelp.
"What the hell Xerxes!" He stammered, his body trapped by Xerxes'. The smaller man buried his head in Reim's shoulder, his body shaking slightly. This was a rather worrying sign. It was far past the 'are you okay?' question, so Reim asked
"What happened Xerx?"
The reply was barely a whisper but at least there was an answer.
"I missed. People died," a sigh "I'm tired Reim, I can't do this anymore,"
Reim held Xerxes close. He knew what a toll the blindness was having on his body and how hard it was to keep up the pretences of being fine in front of others.
"You'll be alright Xerxes, let's get some sleep, okay?" Reim said gently. Xerxes' hands were clutched firmly onto the front of his shirt, whilst his were wrapped around the others back. Xerxes gave a small nod of consent and allowed Reim to pick him up. After dropping Xerxes on the bed, Reim quickly helped him out of his coat, boots and cravat. The lights were extinguished and Reim finally climbed into bed. Xerxes huddled against Reim for warmth whilst the other just needed to know that he was alive. Both slowly drifted off in the tangle of warmth.
When morning came, Xerxes was cold.
