The Match: John Cena and Sami Zayn begin to enter a tie up, with Cena getting the upper hand at the start. Cena dominates Zayn throughout the first half, showing absolute focus and intensity. Zayn manages to weather the storm, however, by making Cena tumble out of the ring.

On the outside, Zayn attempts to catch Cena with his Torpedo DDT, but Cena catches him and tosses Zayn into the steel barricade. Cena then breaks the referee's count at five, before heading back to the outside. Cena then removes the padding that is on the arena floor, exposing the concrete. Cena then attempts to hit an Attitude Adjustment on Zayn, on the exposed floor, but Zayn counters and he rams Cena face first into the ring post.

Zayn then hits his Torpedo DDT, planting Cena's head on the exposed floor. Zayn gets back in the ring, hoping to take a count out victory. Cena, however makes it back into the ring at a count of nine. Sami Zayn then prepares to hit Cena with a Helluva Kick, but Cena suddenly counters with a Canadian Destroyer. Cena then quickly attempts a Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Zayn kicks him in the face and he locks Cena in the Koji Clutch.

Cena, however, manages to reverse it into the STF. Zayn manages to reach the ropes, after being trapped in hold for two minutes. Zayn then hits Cena with a spin out powerbomb, but Cena kicks out at two. Zayn then goes up to the top rope and he attempts a Cross Body, but Cena catches him and he hits Zayn with the Attitude Adjustment. Cena goes for the cover, but Zayn kicks out at two.

Cena then attempts to hit a top rope Legend Drop, but Zayn meets Cena on the top rope. After an intense struggle, Cena knocks Zayn from the top rope. Instead of a Leg Drop, Cena hits his Five Knuckle Shuffle, from the top rope. Cena then prepares to hit Zayn with yet another Attitude Adjustment, but Zayn pushes Cena into a corner and he hits the Helluva Kick, which caught Cena right on the button. Zayn then goes for the cover, but Cena kicks out at two and a half.

Zayn then tries to hit a Swanton Bomb, but Cena moves out of the way and he hits another Attitude Adjustment, but this time, Cena gets the three count and his first Intercontinental Championship.

Winner and new Intercontinental Champion: John Cena.

After the match: Cena and Zayn shake hands and Zayn raises John's hand in victory.
