Chapter Twenty-Eight
Aiden-
My mouth felt hot and sweet, but I pulled away quickly. I looked at Caleb, who had his eyes closed.
"Well, that was...weird," I said, my throat dry, and my voice cracking.
He didn't say anything. He just laid there.
"What, are you dead?" I asked, not sure what else to say.
I prodded him nervously in the shoulder with my finger, my face hovering above his. His eyes popped open. And I was left looking into his dark, endless eyes. My face suddenly grew very hot when I realized he was staring right at my lips after what had just happened.
Not really realizing what I was doing until it was too late, I descended my mouth upon his. He responded immediately, meshing his hot lips with my own. Not only did my lips feel like they were on fire, but they were tingling also. As if I were getting small electric shocks.
Kissing Ashley definitely hadn't been like this. I can't say it enough.
I rolled over, leaning over his body more, placing my arms on either side of his head on the truck hood. His arm wrapped around under my arm and onto my upper back.
As I was about to open my mouth to explore his with my tongue, my back pocket vibrated and "Ohio is For Lovers" started to play. I pulled away from him, slowly this time, and rolled onto my back, looking up at the sky.
I pulled my phone from my pocket and flipped it open, revealing a missed call from Ashley Blake. I immediately rubbed my forehead in guilt after looking at her picture as her caller ID.
What was I doing?
I breathed heavily out, and looked up at the stars. And waited for Caleb to say something. Anything.
But he didn't.
We just lay there, as the minutes and then hours ticked by.
I woke up to the morning sunlight streaming in through the trees.
Caleb got up and got in his truck and started it. I followed suit and hopped in the passenger seat.
He dropped me off outside my house. Where Simon was waiting for me on my front step.
He stood up and glared after Caleb's truck as it drove away.
"What the hell happened to you, Aiden?" He demanded, crossing his arms across his chest as he does when he's really ticked.
"Sorry, I just-" I started.
"Ditching me-us- for that guy? Again? And what about Ashley? She thinks you freaked out and bolted cause you regret kissing her or something stupid like that. I don't get it!" He said, searching my face for answers.
I shoved past him and made my way into my house, tossing the house key on the coffee table in the living room and making my way to the kitchen where I could grab some milk from the fridge.
I turned around to find a very pissed looking Simon.
What else is new?
"Are you going to explain to me what the hell is going on?" He demanded.
I leaned back against the silverware drawer and took a big gulp of my two percent milk.
"I don't even know what the hell is going on," I said bitterly.
"What does that even mean?!" He said, throwing his hands up in the air.
"Simon, just leave me-"
"It's drugs, isn't it? He's got you addicted to drugs," Simon accused.
Ha, he's got me addicted to something, for sure. But the occasional pot was the least of my worries.
"No," I said slowly.
"Why won't you talk to me, Aiden? Ever since he got here, you and I haven't been like we used to. All your time is with him, it seems," He pointed out, pushing his hands through his blond hair.
"We're still the same..." I trailed out.
Simon snorted, and bitterness flashed across his ocean blue eyes. "Yeah right, you keep telling yourself that. All I know is that he's changed you, and it's not for the better."
"Go, Simon!" I yelled.
He looked taken aback, and even took a few steps away to distance himself.
"Fine! Be like that." He said, storming away to my front door.
"Just let me know when I can have my best friend back," He said in a low voice before slamming the door shut after him.
I slumped down onto the cold tiles of the kitchen floor, and put my head in my hands.
What have I done?
