Chapter Fourteen
Aiden-
Everyone was gathered around the door to Ms. Tavern's classroom.
"What's going on?" I asked Nikki as I approached.
"The cast list just got posted," She said.
Everyone was shoving and moving people forcefully to get to the front where the little sheet of paper was posted.
Ashley entered the scene and used her bright pink Coach bag to manuever all the other people out of her way. She inspected the list closely. There was an audible gasp.
"You've got to be freaking kidding me!" I heard her say.
And then she was storming off briskly down the hall, her short white skirt swishing on her legs behind her.
The line started to die down and I got a little closer.

Wow, I didn't get a part at all. And really, it was expected. I mean, I hadn't even really been at the call backs.
I heard Lance groan, "I'm part goat! Ashley had better thank me for doing this stupid play."
"Hey, cool, I'm like a wizard," Corbin said.
"So I guess I'm the cripple chick in the wheelchair," Nikki said, a little disappointed that she didn't get the part of Elphaba. That's incredibly offensive...my mouth turned in a sour disposition at the comment.
"Congratulations, Samantha," Nikki said mostly genuinely, turning towards Sam.
Sam had a shocked look on her face, like she just couldn't quite believe it. She clapped a hand to her pale, soft face.
"Oh wow," She said.
"You'll do great, Samantha," I assured her.
She looked at me with her hazel eyes. "I just can't believe it."
Then she smiled, a bright happy smile. "This is....wow."
"Sure is," I said with a smile.
She looked over at me. "You know, my confidence is like really boosted right now. Do you wanna go grab a coffee over at the Cafe across the street?" She asked.
"Yeah, definitely. I'm buyin'," I said, putting an arm around her shoulder as we exited the school and hopped in my car.
"You know, I'm glad you got the part. You deserve it," I said.
"Yeah, the only part is....I'm pretty sure Ashley hates my guts for it," She said, looking down into her steaming cup of cappuccino.
"Yeah? Well screw Ashley. She always gets the lead role. Someone else deserves a shot," I said.
"I'm sorry you didn't get a part," Samantha said quietly.
"It's not really all that big a deal to me. I only auditioned cause my friends were. I'll be better off in Tech Crew," I said honestly.
"Well, I'm glad you're not upset or anything." She said.
The conversation quieted down between us. She dipped her head down, her brown hair falling onto her cheek. I moved it for her, tucking it behind her ear. She looked up at me through her glasses and blushed.
"Tomorrow I'm volunteering at that animal shelter....If you want, you could join me," She said timidly.
"That sounds great," I said.
As we were leaving the cafe, Samantha tripped and fell. I grabbed her arm quickly, supporting her.
"Sorry, I'm really clumsy when I'm nervous." She said.
"Hey, it's no problem. We all have our weaknesses," I said.
"Really? Cause you don't seem to have any. You're so...perfect," She said.
Then she realized what she had said, and clamped her hand over her mouth. Her cheeks and ears turned the slightest shade of pink.
I sighed. Oh, it was almost funny.
"Trust me, Sam. I'm the farthest you can get from perfect."
