Ezra's POV:

"Caleb?" I mumbled into the phone, rummaging through mugs in the cabinet, "What are you saying?"

As I was pouring steaming hot coffee into my mug, Caleb returned to the phone.

"Alison's trial is taking longer than everyone expected," he clarified, "They found Mona's old friend, Lesli Stone, and she's rattling everyone up. Saying how Mona was being bullied, and no one noticed it. She even threw the girls under the bus, said they wouldn't even let her in Mona's room."

"Where'd you hear this?"

"Emily texted me a few minutes ago... Hanna used all her visiting hours," Caleb muttered irritably.

"It was like all the life was sucked out of her... It wasn't... Hanna," he whispered.

I couldn't imagine how he felt. Having your girlfriend locked up for something she never even did?

Only being able to talk to her during her strict call times?

That was what made me so terrified: Aria could not possibly leave the world of Alison Dilaurentis. Alison's life was a tornado that sucked everyone in at every turn.

"Do you think the girls will be questioned also?" I mumble as realistic thoughts cloud my mind.

"Who knows..." he breathes slowly, "I mean, they do know that they are completely tied with Ali and her whole fake kidnapping story. They know the girls lied for her too."

"So you're saying...?"

"I'm saying I would expect every possible case scenario. Ali has got these girls tied together like one big knot that not even the court can untie them and find out the truth," Caleb answers, his tone of voice slightly rising.

Why are the girls even involved in this case? The case is solely based on Mona and her murder, not the Ali and the girls' relationship.

But Mona's murder is tied to Alison.

Alison is tied to her fake kidnapping story.

Alison's fake kidnapping story is tied to the girls.

Everyone is tied to everyone.

"Aria..." I whisper as I breathe out, thinking about her every second this conversation continues.

"Why don't you go down and see her? I'm sure she needs someone."

A sigh of disappointment leaves my mouth. "She does. She has Andrew."

Caleb quickly picks up on my annoyance and chuckled slightly. "Ezra, you really think she'd choose that boy she's known for three weeks over you, who's she's dated for two years?"

"Two years is a long time to keep a secret..." I mumble under my breath, soon realizing Caleb has no clue what I'm talking about.

A cold sigh leaves my mouth as I settled into the couch, sipping my strong coffee occasionally.

"What?"

"Um, never mind," I recover quickly.

"Ezra, I heard about the crap that went down between you and Aria," he mumbles back.

"Right. Aria talks to Hanna, Hanna talks to you," I sigh through clenched teeth.

A few short seconds pass with light breathing passing brought the phone. The more seconds that pass, the more nervous I become about what he would say.

Hanna loves Aria, and Hanna loves Caleb.

Caleb has to care for Aria, too.

The thought of Caleb resented me because I hurt his grilfriend's best friend created a pit in the bottom of my stomach.

"I-I... I don't want her to hate me anymore than she does now," I murmur quietly into the phone.

"I'm no relationship expert, but the way Hanna talks about the two of you, she can never hate you. Hanna says you guys are... Soulmates."

Soulmates.

A mate of the soul.

The gatekeeper to your heart.

One person who you soulfully connect with.

A single person who sings to your heart.

Aria; a solo singer.

A solo singer to my soul.

"Aria..." I whisper once again, without even noticing.

"Ezra, get down there. She's going to fall apart, and I can sure as hell bet Andrew can't pick up all the pieces. He doesn't know her like you do," he demands out of true care.

Before I could articulate a reasonable response in my mind, the other line beeps quietly before Caleb's voice could no longer be heard; his phone went dead.

I place my phone gently onto the coffee table and sink back into the couch.

With a sudden urge, my fingers swipe the screen of my phone and dial Aria's number.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

No answer.

Redial.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

No answer.

Redial.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

No answer.

Almost instantly after the last ring, my phone beeps with a text message that pops up onto the screen.

"Looks like your 'soulmate' bailed. Now, she's going to jail. -A"
