Prologue

Rukongia fifteen years ago at Sereitei Orphanage....

"Rukia Mr. Ukitake would like to see you in his office." Mrs. Unohana told Rukia. "oooh Rukia is in trouble!" Rukia's friend Renji shouted. Rukia gave him a glare that could melt ice and walked towards the hall to Mr.Ukitake's office.

Rukia stared at the door for an apprehensive second before going foward to knock. Mr. Ukitake's low jovial voice came through the thick door "Come in." Rukia hesitated in fear for a mere second before going inside.

Inside Mr. Ukitake was sitting behind his desk but he wasn't alone. A very tall man with long black hair and piercing grey eyes was sitting across from Mr. Ukitake. He was looking at me with a suprised expression on is face for a split second then he went back to an indifferent scowl. He turned back to Mr. Ukitake.

"Please come in Rukia, sit down." Mr. Ukitake said pointing to the seat beside the strange man. As i take my seat Mr. Ukitake begins by saying "Rukia I have some exciting and unfortunate news for you. You know your sister Hisana brought you to us five years ago in hope to one day return to take you back when she was able. Yes?"

With those words Rukia's heart jumped in hope. "Has she finally come for me?" Rukia asked. Her heart fell as soon as Mr. Ukitake gave her a sad smile and said. "Rukia im sorry to tell you this but Hisana passed away three months ago."

Rukia was frozen in that moment. She felt like her whole world was crashing down upon herself. She didn't realize she was holding her breath until Mr. Ukitake spoke "Rukia your sister Hisana got married eight months ago to this gentleman Byaukuya Kuchiki before she became ill with cancer."

The stranger Byaukuya interrupted at that point "Hisana my wife wanted to come get you right away. She loved you very much Rukia. I think she felt by asking me to adopt you it would be to much and a bother to me. So she waited until three months ago before she passed. She made me promise her to adopt you and give you a good life. A life she wanted to give to you herself. It is no bother at all to me and I always keep my promises. So here I am."

"Yes, Byaukuya is here to take you home. Everything is all settled away and everything is signed. Now you must just say your goodbyes to everyone." Mr. Ukitake said. He got up and started for the door. Everyone got up except for Rukia. She didnt realize they were at the door until Mr.Ukitake interrupted her internal battle with herself. "Rukia are you coming. You must get your things and say goodbye." "Yes" she said with reluctance starting for the door.

Rukia's POV Age 6

They started down the hallway toward the living room where everyone was playing games or watching t.v. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked up and stared at us. Mr. Ukitake asked Mrs. Unohana to go pack my things for me while I said goodbye. I was frozen in that spot I could not think to move until Mr. Ukitake broke that silence again by nudging me towards all the children that were staring at me. "Go on now Rukia im sure Mr.Kuchiki is a very busy man." he said.

I started to walk towards Renji my best friend. "What's going on Rukia? Are you getting adopted?" he asked. "Yes Renji, by my sisters husband. So i guess this is goodbye for now. Im going to miss you." I turned toward the other children and said "Im going to miss all of you." The younger children began to cry which made me realize I hadn't cried for my sister yet. I walked towards the children that were crying and said "Don't worry will see each other again. In the future when we're all grown up." I said it even knowing it was a lie.

Mrs. Unohana came down the stairs then "I think I have everything for you Rukia." She said walking towards me with tears in her eyes. She knelt down to my level and grabbed me into one of her famous big bear hugs. I was going to miss these hugs. Mr. Kuchiki doesn't really look much like a hugger at all let alone very touchy feely kind of person. Not at all like Mr. Ukitake and Mrs. Unohana. I was going to miss them very much. Mrs. Unohana interrupted her thoughts "Rukia my dear child, I am going to miss you very much. Now who on earth is going to help me with Renji and his little tantrums." I giggled at that last part. I was one of the only people who could settle Renji down when he got into an angry fit. I would miss his little fits. I would miss them all very much.

At that point Mrs. Unohana let me go to only be scooped up into Mr. Ukitake's arms for a big bear hug of his own. At that point I started to feel the tears in my eyes. I didn't want anyone to see. I hated crying especially in front of people so I blinked them away. Mr. Ukitake then set me down on my feet and gave me a nice warm kiss on my forhead that gave me warmth and strength to continue forward and said "we all will miss you very much."

Mr. Kuchiki and I started for the door. Only to be stopped by Renji pulling me into a big hug of his own with tears in his eyes. It startled me knowing we never gave hugs to one another. After the shock factor passed I wrapped him in a hug too. Renji whispered in my ear "Rukia be happy." Hearing those words had just about done it for me. I was very close to crying now. I tried really hard to breathe and blink away the tears but they just stayed there in my big violet eyes ready to fall at any moment. I let Renji go a little to look him in the eyes "Thank you Renji you too, be happy." I said and gave him a small sloppy peck on the side of his cheek.

Mr. Kuchiki and I headed for the door again. Before they left out the door I turned around and looked at each and everyone of the people who I had come to know as my family. When I got to Renji I saw he had a big bright red face. I looked at everyone again this time with one of my big smiles with tears in my eyes. Not realizing it would be one of my last smiles I would have for a long time. Then I turned and walked out into the new life I would call my home with my adopted big brother Mr. Kuchiki.
