Tap, Tap, Tap.
A perfectly manicured nail tapped impatiently on the kitchen counter, its red nail polish gleaming underneath the warm kitchen lights. 'Where is that idiot?' thought Kashuu, glancing nervously at the clock as he had already done 100 other times that night. He was waiting for his boyfriend Yamato to come home so they could celebrate New Years Eve together. He had spent all day cleaning every inch of their shared home, and preparing a delicious feast for the both of them to enjoy. If only he would come home faster, it was already 11:30, and Yamato had promised him that they would count down the minutes to the new year together. 'Hmmph well I might as well touch up my makeup while I wait for this idiot' he said out loud and made his way to the bathroom. His socks slid quietly across the polished wooden floors, but he stopped when he reached photos of the two of them on the wall. He tsk'ed when he saw his carefree face smiling back at himself through the glass, it was such an unbecoming side of him that only showed when he was with Yamato. He always feels like a giddy schoolgirl when he's with Yamato, it felt like a dream that they were together in this lifetime.Yamato didn't remember, but the two of them had been hired swords that served the same master in another life. Kashuu remembered every small detail from that lifetime as if it had just taken place recently. The two of them had bickered constantly, and never got along, but spent a lot time together and soon became close friends. However, once Kashuu experienced the gentle, honest side of Yamato, he immediately fell in love with him, but could never admit his true feelings. One day, Kashuu finally steeled his nerves to confess to Yamato after he would come back from his expedition, but it was not to be. Yamato died in battle that day, and when Kashuu found out, it had felt like his heart had been ripped out and stomped on. From that day forward, Kashuu swore to never love anyone else again. He lived the rest of the days depressed and angry with the world, until he had decided his life was worthless without Yamato, and drowned himself in the river. He remembers his last thought to be 'Now, I can finally see you again, my beloved Yamato', as he sank into the icy cold darkness of the water.
In the present day, he was shopping in a sweets store when he noticed the cashier to be none other then his beloved Yamato. Kashuu visited the store often afterwards, and built a relationship with the Yamato of this lifetime, until he asked him out. The look on Yamato's face was one that set his heart pounding like crazy , an expression of utter embarrassment and joy. They had been dating for a year before Yamato gave him the keys to his quaint house, and they moved in together. Every day had been bliss for Kashuu, even though the two of them argued frequently, he wasn't alone anymore, and the love of his life was finally by his side.
'But apparently not right now' he muttered, pissed at how happy thinking of Yamato was making him.
He sighed, walked into the bathroom and looked in the mirror at his pale face. He pinched his cheeks to bring some colour into them, and reapplied red lipgloss to his pursed lips ~You always look beautiful no matter what~ Yamato's words echoed in his head which made him smile a little bit. 'I won't look beautiful enough if I don't apply my makeup idiot' kashuu said out loud as he examined his face for any blemishes to cover. He checked his nails for any cracks, and looked down at his black and red kimono that he had put on especially for Yamato. He remembered in the other lifetime when they had attended a festival together, Yamato had complimented him on how nice he looked in a kimono, and though he would never admit it, a small part of him hoped that this would make Yamato remember their long past together. Blushing at the thought of a possible compliment, he walked quickly out of the bathroom, and almost tripped over his own feet as he made his way into the living room. He sat on the couch with his arms crossed and looked at the clock again, 11:50. A sudden thought hit him which made his stomach hurt. 'What if Yamato had found someone else, someone who was even more beautiful and elegant then me?' His breathing became shallow as he tried to fight off his suspicions. 'There's no way..' He said to himself, but a small voice in his head whispered 'he left you alone once, it's possible he could do it again, after all, you're not beautiful, not desirable, not worthy of love'. His vision became blurred as unwanted tears gathered in his eyes, and fell down his face, making glittering lines in his makeup. 'It was all a lie, he doesn't love you, not back then, and not now' the angry tears kept falling down his face but he did not change his facial expression, he was so disappointed in Yamato for making him fall in love with him. 'I'm going to be alone again' he whispered, trembling like a leaf at the thought. Someone, anyone, please don't leave me...Suddenly, the door flew open and Yamato came stumbling in calling out Kashuu's name. 'Honey I'm hooooooooome' he yelled, giggling at his own cheesiness. His long dark blue hair was tied back in a messy ponytail, which became messier as he wrestled off his jacket and kicked off his shoes. He adjusted his blue blazer, and clumsily patted down his hair in the mirror. It was not until he looked around the house that He noticed Kashuu sitting there, trembling and staring at him with tears on his face, and his goofy smile immediately disappeared. 'Kashuu what's wrong?' He asked worriedly, staggering over to the couch and sitting down in front of Kashuu's legs on the floor. Kashuu wrinkled his nose at the strong smell of alcohol coming off of Yamato, and turned his head away. 'Kashuu? Kashuu? look at me please?' Asked Yamato, putting his hands on Kashuu's knees and frantically trying to reason with him. 'You..promised..to spend tonight with me' said Kashuu his voice shaking with anger and sadness, still not meeting Yamato's worried gaze. Yamato's eyes widened and he sunk further to the floor. 'I'm sorry Kashuu I..' 'I DONT WANT TO HEAR YOUR EXCUSES' yelled Kashuu, fresh tears spilling down his cheeks. 'THE OTHER PERSON YOU LOVE IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN ME, SO YOU SHOULD GO SPEND NEW YEARS WITH THEM INSTEAD. IM SICK OF BETRAYEL, JUST LEAVE ME ALONE ALREADY!' He choked out the last words before starting to sob. Yamato's eyes widened and he grabbed onto Kashuu's arms frantically. 'Please don't cry Kashuu, You're the only one I love, I don't look at other people the same way that I look at you. Please believe me, I'll do anything for you, everyone at work was just so happy for me that they kept pouring me drinks, and I couldn't escape'. Kashuu finally stopped sobbing, looked down at his pathetic boyfriend and asked ' Why were they so happy? it shouldn't have held you up this much, I was waiting for you here this whole time'. Yamato glanced at the clock and then back to Kashuu's angry, tear stained face before taking a deep breath. 'I've been wanting to do this for a long time Kashuu, and I never felt like the time was right until now' said Yamato searching his pockets clumsily for something. 'I told them my plan for tonight and they all wanted to wish me good luck, and I ended up drinking a bit too much, but I still want to do this' said Yamato sheepishly, finally finding and taking out a small box in his trembling hands.
'Kashuu Kiyomitsu, you are the reason I can live my life in happiness, and I love you so much it scares me. You are the most beautiful thing on this earth and I want to spend the rest of my life, and every other life with you', the box was opened and a beautiful gold ring with a red ruby in the centre shone in the dim light of the room. Kashuu's eyes widened and he looked down at his beautiful, pathetic boyfriend who was looking at him like he meant the world to him. Happy tears began flowing down Kashuu's face as he said 'it took you long enough you idiot, of course I'll marry you'. Yamato's face was indescribable in that moment, he began to cry too and lunged at Kashuu, sobbing loudly. He wrapped his arms around Kashuu and sobbed into his chest. 'I was so worried that I would be rejected, I'm so sorry for leaving you alone, I love you so much' Yamato said, muffled by the kimono. Kashuu looked over at the clock,12:03, in this new year he was engaged to the love of his life. He patted Yamato on the back, and wiped the tears off his own face. 'Ugh my makeup is probably all messed up because of my pathetic boyfriend' he thought, sighing at the thought of retouching it. 'Oi get off of me already, you're heavy idiot' he said, attempting to push off Yamato and failing. Yamato's sobbing had ceased, his breathing was now even, and his tear stained face was peaceful. This drunk idiot fell asleep on me at a time like this???? Thought Kashuu, already annoyed with his new fiancée. He looked down at Yamato's sleeping face on his chest and smiled widely. 'Love you too, more then you'll ever know', he whispered and kissed Yamato on the forehead, as the sound of a sword finally being sheathed echoed in the distance.
~'Nice to meet you, my name is Kashuu Kiyomitisu'. Yamato looked up at the sound of the newcomers voice and couldn't speak. The most beautiful person he had ever seen was extending a hand out to him with the most annoyed looking face. 'Do you have a name or what?' asked Kashuu, his voice bored. Yamato coughed and said with a weak voice 'I..I'm yamatonokami yasusada, nice to meet you'. he smiled only slightly and Yamato's heart jumped in his chest. 'I guess we are serving the same master, so don't get in my way or I'll cut off your cute ponytail while you sleep' said Kashuu, smirking and walking away, his sword in his pale hand. As soon as he was out of sight, Yamato clutched at his chest, his cheeks flushed red and whispered 'oh this job is going to be bad for my heart'
