It has been 19 years since Lestat healed fully. The year is 2013 and everything has changed. Lestat De Lioncourt is one of the vampires in the world that is still having a hard time getting used to the 21st century but he is still settling. That poor reporter had denied his offer to vampirism and so Lestat killed him. He threw the tapes out of the car that he had taken away from the reporter so that it was'nt likely that someone would publish the article. At this moment he was driving around town searching for a club for him to feed. He saw the club Underground and just the name reeled him in. He got out of his car and locked it. As he walked into the club pounding music came into his ears. There were women and men dancing to each other but there were a few people that were not dancing, just hanging at the bar and that is where he usually went to get his prey.

He  looked from a distance to the bar, trying to decide where to sit. He then decided to sit next to a group of friends hanging out and drinking cocktails. There was one woman that caught his special attention. She had dirty blonde hair and very BLUE eyes. He was sure he had seen her somewhere before. His curiosity was so much that he could almost smell it and he had to find out more about this girl. That was why she was his prey for the night.

He tried to read the girl's thoughts but all he could find was that she was a cop with her friends on a girls' night out. He just thought that the reason he could not find out more was because she had had alcohol but when she saw him her face went paler than it already was but she just looked back to her friends and smiled. He decided to listen to their conversation to find out what was wrong. She checked her blackberry phone and then started writing something without her friends noticing.

A few minutes later her phone vibrated and she took it up to see who had texted her. "Girls, I'm sorry I need to leave. He's coming to pick me up." She said and her friends just nodded in agreement, obviously knowing who he was. This made Lestat even more curious. Was it her mate or boyfriend as they called it nowadays or could it be yet another friend? He decided to follow her outside and find out.

After she had gotten her coat, she waved the guard goodbye and gave him a smile. "Nice to see you Shane." she said and held her jacket in her hand. "You too Jess." he answered as she headed out the door. So know he at least knew her name. He had already glued it into his mind.

He used his vampire speed to get fast into the shadows. His eyes stared at her wondering, who was this young woman and why did he feel like he had seen her somewhere before?

As he looked towards the door, Jess came walking out on her prada heels and was looking to her left and right to check if there was anyone there and then she continued walking towards the end af the alley which was only 10 meters away from the entrance to her right. She didn't hesitate and so she walked fast as to avoid something and he started following her in the same speed she was walking in. She walked faster until she was at the end of the alley and she made a bad attempt of hiding. She turned to her right and breathed heavily. Jess, try to calm yourself, she thought. She was tempted to see if it was the person she thought it was and so she looked at the alley and scanned it. She was about to take a step back into the alley when she saw a pair of eyes she seemed to recognize. At that very moment a car pulled over right in front of her and she ran to it. She opened the door on the passenger side, got in and closed the door quickly. Lestat ran to the back of the car and tried to see the person in the car but the windows were completely blacked out and even he could'nt see. "He's here, I am sure of it. He was trying to get into my mind and I believe it is no coincidence that he sat next to us, he is sure he knows me from somewhere which is bad and he is determined to find out who I am and why he recognizes me!"  Jess breathed out, stressed about her future. "We don't need to think about him, let's drive you home." Jess' fiance said to her.

As her fiance's car pulled over by her apartment, they looked at each other in silence for a minute and then Jess kissed him. "Do you want me to come inside with you?" he asked. "No, you need to get something to drink, I'll be fine. After all, I am a cop." she said which made him chuckle a bit. She gave him one last kiss and then waved him goodbye as she shut the door.

When the car had disappeared, Jess walked up the stairs to her door. When she was all the way up to it, she took up her purse and searched for her keys when all ofa sudden she felt someone's breath on her neck and she had a clue on who it was.

"A stranger can mean 4 things:

1) A person whom one does not know; a person who is neither a friend  nor an aquaintence.

2) A foreigner or outsider

3) A newcomer

and finally

4) One who has not been seen for a long time." Lestat whispered into her ear and she smirked.

"Hello Lestat." Jess said, astounding him a bit. "Now, where do I know you from?" he asked as he started feeling her pulse. "Ohh, now why would I tell you?" Jess asked as she backed away. "So you do admit we have met?" Lestat questioned Jess. "Yes I do, but that might be a problem for you, considering you will never be able to read my mind to see who I am and so you will have to find out on your own but I'll give you this, you will remember me if it so happens I would sing for you one very specific song." she said. "I do have another request for you, unfortunately. You see, my house just burned down and I have nowhere to stay, so may I place my only belonging, my coffin, in your house and sleep there while I find another place to sleep?" he kindly asked her.

"Sure you can stay, go and get your coffin right now and then bring it over here. I believe you have alot to learn." she said to him. A moment later he disappeared to go and get his coffin. Because of him being a vampire, he was very strong and he could run very fast so he would be back in no time. Jess found her keys, opened her apartment and entered.

Lestat ran all the way over to the place he was currently his house. He was going to miss all of the pretty things that were in the house and all the memories that were in there but then again, it was the house he had been killed in and the place that Claudine had been made in and just the thought of Claudine made him want to burn the house instantly. He took out his coffin and laid it on the ground in front of the gates outside of the house. He ran inside and lit up all  the candles in the house and put them by windows and wooden things so that there were natural causes. When he came outside he was quite satisfied with himself and he saw that the house was already on fire but he thought as though something was missing and so he lit a match and threw it at the door. Then he took his coffin and ran to Jess' apartment. He didn't bother to knock and so he just entered.

He saw that she had put alot of work into her apartment. It was sophisticated and quite old fasioned. "I see you like my apartment and I am not surprised at all, considering your vampirism." Jess said as she walked down the stairs. "Bring that thing upstairs, I've got one room avalible but if you want to stay in that room, you have to live by my rules." she said. "And what would those rules be?" Lestat asked her with a tiny bit of a flirtatious sound in his voice.

"Rule number one, no feeding in this house. Rule number two, I am not food. Rule number three, you do not interfere with my private life. Rule number four, one week you will sleep every other week during night time." Jess said. "Here, wear this when you go out in daytime." She added and threw a ring his way. He grabbed it and examined it thoroughly before slowly putting it on. The ring had a crimson red ruby inside and it had swirly patterns around it. "Why do I need this ring?" Lestat asked, quite annoyed. "That ring will help you be out in sunlight and thus, you will not become ashes." she answered. "And since it is Saturday, tomorrow is a different week and that will be your first week out in sunlight for over 200 years so I suggest that you go  to bed now." sh said and with that she walked away from him and up to a room, opened the door but when she was about to enter, she looked back to Lestat. "Oh and Lestat...your room is over there, good night." she said and pointed to the room across from hers and she walked into her room and shut the door.
