After she calmed me down ran straight to my room and called Michael. It felt like the phone rung for ages before he answered.
"Hello." He screamed over the loud noise in the background. It sounded like the entire Jackson Family plus some and it didn't sound happy.
"Hey babe I got your packages and I-"
"Did you like them." he asked screaming over the noise.
"Yeah and wanted you to know that I love you and I have something to tell you."
"So do I and I think I should go first." "Well uhm ok."
"Well, um, I was going to tell you this but I didn't know exactly how to break it to you." He gulped, sighed. "You love me right?"
"Yes I do, Michael your scaring me what's going on."
"And you did like the presents."
"Spit it out Michael."
"There is this girl, Diana. We used to be good friends. She hung around the studio a lot and uhh one night we were at the studio late." I started to tear up and my heart was racing. I sadly know exactly where this story is going.
"And what exactly happened on that night?" My voice was shaking.
He got quiet. I knew what he meant to say. I wanted to break the silence but my voice wouldn't come out. We were stuck in a lingering silence until he finally broke it.
"She's pregnant. The child could be mine." he said quietly. I dropped the phone and sat there in shock.
"Baby Baby Jasmyn" I could hear him screaming through the phone. I started shaking all over but I mustered the strength to grab the phone and hang it up. I sat in the floor for a while. I was crying in silence I couldn't make a sound my voice was gone. All my energy was gone. No wonder he was ignoring me for weeks. He was with her. No I'm not gonna be heartbroken over this. I vowed to myself. I'm going out tonight and I'm gonna do the same thing. I'm gonna have fun and not care who I hurt. I came on this vacation to relax and be always from stress and that's exactly what I'm gonna do. I wiped my tears and got up. I walked into the bathroom to fix my makeup. I changed into something more comfortable, grabbed my bag and left without saying anything to Hannah.
Music filled the sun-drenched club. I was seated at the piano. Playing a few keys and humming a few lyrics. A pen dangles from my ear, half of my hair pulled up into a messy lopsided bun on my head. It's a simple tune right now and slightly off-key but it's coming together nicely. Chick, who I just met is working in the corner, chuckling to himself, stacking chairs, sweeping up. He's Prince's bodyguard apparently. I also met two other girls named Wendy and Lisa and we also talked about Prince, music and other stuff. They are the cutest babes I have ever met. They are so funny and they also brightened up my mood and made me forget that I was even upset.
"Any Request my boy." I started playing a happy bar tune.
"Surprise me." Chick laughed as he picked up a bar stool.
I cleared my throat and started up: "Every single day, I walk down the street. I hear people say 'baaaaby so sweet'. Ever since puberty. Everybody stares at me. Boys girls I can't help it baby. So be kind and don't lose your miiiiiind. Just remember that I'm your baby." I got on top of the piano. "Take me for what I am. Not who I was meant to be." I started singing in a showgirl voice. "and if you give a damn take me baby or leave me." I sat down and crossed my legs dramatically "No way, can I be what I'm not. but hey, don't you want your girl hot?
Don't fight it, don't loose your head.
Cuz every night, who's in your beeeeeeeeeeeeeeed? Hey....whooooo's in your bed baby." I blew a kiss into the mic and slid back onto the bench. "Kiss Pookie." We both blew up in laughter and I heard slight footsteps I stopped and listened intently. I jumped up and spilled my orange juice on the piano as I saw Prince come around the corner. He stopped short and looked surprised.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"What...what are you doing here? I retorted defensively
He was scanning the board by the door and there was an awkward silence between us.
"......it's kind of dead in here. Where is everybody?" he looked back at me with those beautiful hazel eyes. I shrugged at sat back down at the piano "In bed I guess..wendy and Lisa said they would be here later."
He hopped up onto the stage and walked over to me. "That's nice...I guess I'll come back at a better time. You think tonight this place'll be jumpin'?" he smiled at me.
"Well I'll be here--I'm excited to see what you do now. Last time I saw you perform was at Capitol Theater."
He smiled at me and moved towards the door.
"Wait! I've got something for you." I started rummaging through my bag.
"What? a subpoena?"
I stopped and looked at him with a straight face. I rolled my eyes and smiled and pulled out a cassette.
"Here it is!" I held it out and he reached for it. "It's a song Lisa and Wendy wrote." He stiffened and pulled his hand back. "Why didn't they give it to me themselves?"
"Well,I liked it and wanted to listen to it. They told me to give it to you when I was done but I might as well give it to you now since your here."
He put his sunglasses on and took it from me gingerly. He stared at it for a while and finally looked up at me.
"You really liked it huh?
I smiled and nodded wondering what he was getting at.
He shook his head and put the cassette in his pocket. He looked at me for a while and then his gaze shifted towards lips and back up. He bit his lip, smirked, and left.Only Prince.
