Lucas had always had a great social life, plenty of friends girls and parties but he knew he would need to settle down at some point. He was getting older and his job didn't give much leeway for screwing about, literally or figuratively and he knew the danger of it all.
But looking at Adeline he couldn't help but feel a tug in his chest, a need to be a little closer and to protect her at all costs.
It wasn't something he enjoyed. She was a weak spot and that was the last thing Lucas needed in his life. He had spent plenty of time with beautiful girls, but now none seemed to compare to this beauty that sat right next to him.
She was so tiny and needed so much protecting. He knew the danger her father was enveloped in. He would have made her leave to. Life with that man wasn't safe. Never would be.
She would have to spend her whole life with a protecter. Good possibility no one would ever marry her because of that. This life wasn't for the faint of heart and he knew it well.
He got this job straight out of the army off an injury. His brother had been killed protecting Adeline's mother. Both families were very close and shared there time of need.
He had watched Adeline grow up although she never knew he was there. She was always busy with something else. Pinning for attention. She didn't know that he had always been close. He would never let anyone touch her. She was his.
He shook his head. she wasn't his. He didn't want her. Too much baggage for him and the last thing he needed was some girl with too much baggage, but when those tears fell down her cheeks his heart shattered into a million pieces.
He knew he loved her and he knew it was wrong. He also knew about her crush on him. She'd talk in her sleep, he was also very observant and saw the way she looked at him.
As soon as she had come out this morning, dressed in those tight jeans his breath had stopped as he tried to control himself. The men would be lusting after her very quickly if this was how she looked everyday and he knew, it was. He bit his cheek.
No other man would have her, he would make sure of it. She was his beauty and no one else's. He would be her beast. He would protect her with his life. It wasn't her fault the family she was born into.
Suddenly the bell rang. Lucas jumped from his thoughts.
"I-it's lunch" the sweet voice called out, pulling him from the fog. He couldn't be distracted like this. His job was far too important. Distraction meant danger and danger in his line of work, could lead to death.
As they walked into the lunch room he scanned the crown. He knew how to look for danger, subtle movements, a man out of place; any small signs that would help him in case of danger.
He had a salad for lunch, healthy enough. Unfortunately for his rock hard body that was counteracted by Adeline's talents and baked goods. He would have to work ten times as hard before he could get all these calories gone. That was saying something because he worked out at least twice a day before he started helping Adeline's father.
He knew the men in the room all had eyes on Adeline but she didn't know it. Her self confidence was low and her fathers common absence didn't help. He was almost certain it solidified her abandonment issues. She felt she wasn't good enough for a relationship, friendship or anything else.
He normally only knew girls who were hot, and knew it. Adeline was beautiful and hot and every guys fantasy, she was unaware though. He wanted her to realize her potential but he wasn't really sure how to help her at this point. All he knew was he was going to work as hard as possible to make her realize what she was and how much she was worth no matter what the cost or what it meant.
She sat there nibbling on a cookie. She wouldn't eat it, it was as if she was scared to take a bite out of her food which really was amazing and deserved to be eaten. He gave her a questioning look.
"I eat enough as it is, with the amount I weigh compared to my height." Adeline mumbled. She obviously hadn't appreciated her beauty as everyone else has. Then again no one ever lives to the full potential.
He shook his head at the beauty. She felt angelic but she was real and for the moment all his. She knew the relationship could stay a friendly one, she severely wished for a little bit more then she had.
As they sat and talked, the men of the school talked as well. The players of all types and groups found her hot, she was obviously not as easy as some of the girls.
They also knew this man that watched over her had some claim towards the small girl. It was as though it was an unspoken protection. If they were to hurt her they would be dealing with him and they had a feeling that wouldn't be enjoyable.
He watched her speak. She was keeping her head down as she hate. Tiny bites. Trying to eat as little as possible in as much time as possible. It had something to do with her confidence and he knew she needed to eat properly. She seemed to think she was not good enough. Whether she was or wasn't overweight he didn't notice. She was beautiful inside and out and if she was "normal" then hey that's great and if she wasn't then she was just as gorgeous and just as normal.
She didn't notice the way everyone looked at her. They thought it was judgment but she didn't notice the lust and want and admiration that reflected. She didn't see her own beauty and he knew that this would become part of his protection. He would protect her from herself no matter the cost.
