I hadn't had much sleep that night, but I still arose early. Ms. Kierra seemed upset about something. "Are you okay, Ms. Kierra?" I asked. "I just got a lot of memories, child. Today makes 8 years ago my dear baby died, he was only 6, shot by a white man, he claimed it was only an accident, but I'll still hold it against him." She said, she wiped a tear from her face as she stirred the pot of oatmeal. Her emotion went from sorrow to anger. "Well, was it an accident?" I asked, in a shaky voice, I was worried shed lash out on me, the way she kneaded the day's bread, with such anger. "I don't believe so child, there were many witnesses who said my baby had sassed the white man, so then he went out in a rage just because he was colored. He took his gun and shot him. If I ever see that man again, I will not hold my tongue." She said, wiping tears from her flour dusted face. I wished I could do something to help her. I didn't know what to say. Mother led the family into the dining room, I was glad, it broke the silence between us. I sat next to my sisters, And wondered what I would do that day. I had piano practice, and mama gave Amelia and I schooling lessons every day. But that didn't complete my day, never. I was always looking for adventure. I decided to make a flower crown for Molly. Mama and mrs. Indie looked like they were making life long friendships, she seemed like a nice lady, I hoped to make friends with her as well. As soon as I finished breakfast I went to my lessons. After, I took a basket and set out on an adventure to find beautiful flowers for the flower crown. I picked a basketful of flowers, all sorts of colors. I was walking through the oak trees when I found John, the eldest of the family's children, sitting by a tree, reading a book. I approached him slowly, he didn't even know I was there until I said "what book are you reading?", "The Bible" he said, startled. "what's it about?"
"You've never heard of it? What religion are you?" He asked, surprised. "My kin says were catholic."
"Well, the Bible is Gods book,"
when he said God, I had a good feeling inside!
"It tells all about him, and his son, Jesus" he continued. I sat down because I knew I was in for an adventure, something in me wanted to hear more about this book. "God sent Jesus down to earth to show us how we're supposed to live, and he died for our sins, John 3:16 says that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, and whoever believes in him shall never perish but have eternal life!" He said, I knew I had sinned many times in my lifetime. "Does that mean everyone? Does that mean, me?" I asked, "Yes, for you, for me, for his whole world! And you can talk to him just like we're talking, you can have a personal relationship with him" he said, I was baffled, "How?" I asked. "Well, when Jesus died, he promised that he would send a comforter, and that's called the Holy Spirit, when you repent for your sins and receive Gods forgiveness, you'll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and thats how we can communicate with God. Praying is just talking to God, it's as simple as that." He said, "Wow, I want that!" I said. "Well, let's start from the beginning!" He said, he told me all about how God created the earth and how he created us all in his image, and how he loves us! I repented of my sins, I felt joy, I wanted to run and dance and praise the lord! I was glad, too, that I had made friends with John, I was glad that they had come here. And, little did I know, my future husband had just led me to Jesus. As we walked back, he seemed somewhat serious, he said "Lillian, your family may not be ready to accept Jesus as their savior, so don't be surprised if they react mad or angry", I now knew that Pride was sin, and my family was filled with it. "Some people like their sin, and they don't like it when people tell them it's wrong" he continued. I understood. I suddenly remembered the flower crown, we sat on the bottom stairs and I started making I crown. "You know, your family seems so happy and content, my family may have money and earthly riches, but they never have that look of true joy on their faces, before you told me about Jesus, I felt an emptiness inside, I was, sad. But now I feel so alive! Thank you, John" I said. He smiled, "don't thank me, thank him" he said, I smiled and looked up until the sky, and closed my eyes, I silently said "thank you, Jesus". "They said it was a miracle your sister lived" I said, "only by the grace of God! If we wouldn't have prayed, I don't think she'd still be here." He said. After I finished the crown we went up stairs into Molly's room. "Hello!" I said. "Hi" she said, I could see she was in pain. "I'm Lillian, but you can call me Lily! I made this for you" I handed it to her, she seemed so thankful, her face lit up. "Thank you, it's so pretty!" She said in a broken voice. "Your welcome" I said, and just smiled. I felt like I had a new life, I felt as if I were embarking on a new adventure, little did I know that it would take a lifetime of serving Jesus, and result in an eternity with the King of Kings, and the Lord above all Lords.
