6 Weeks Earlier

The house looks like it's been abandoned for decades now by the amount of dust that’s created a blankets over all the furniture or whatever furniture that hasn’t been already stolen. There are few windows that haven’t been barred by mouldy planks of wood, allowing only the slightest amount of light to sneak in. The wallpaper has long ago started to peel off leaving the solitary pieces that haven’t succumbed to gravity’s will. The floorboards creak with every step that I take, no matter how lightly I attempt to move, causing me to cringe.

When I was younger I always strongly despised haunted houses, there was just something about them that made my skin crawl. There was something about this house that reminded me of one, I don’t know whether it was the way it was lit or whether it was the feeling of being hopeless, of knowing that there was someone that was going to jump out and scare the life out of you but not being able to do anything about it.

“We know you are in there! I told you that there was nowhere for you to hide, where we won't find you! You never should have run!” Anthony, her head-henchmen, yells from outside.

This house was my last hope to lose them and escape, now all that was left was for me to do is wait to see what lies ahead. Just as I find the perfect hiding spot I hear the front door open and heavy footsteps leading straight towards me, like they knew exactly where I was going to hide before I had even found this house. Before I knew what was happening I set of hands grab me in a vice like grip and hurls me violently to my feet.

“I thought that I was being very clear when I told you that there would be horrible consequences if you tried to run from us.” Anthony sneers, his face directly in front of mine.

“Please don’t do anything to me! I promise I won't try to run again.” I beg him as tears fall freely from my eyes.

“Oh, I know you won't be escaping again.” He laughs wickedly “You won't be able to run again once I am done with you.”

I feel his hold on me loosen as one of his hand goes to reach something from behind him. Before I can react and get him to lose his hold on me completely his partner snatches me, wrapping his arm around my waist containing my arms, effectively stopping my struggling. Anthony pulls out a gun from behind his back and points it at my temple.

“I know you won't be running again because you need to be alive in order to run.” He grins menacingly at me.

“No, no, no, no, no. Please don’t do this.” I beg him, starting to struggle again.

“It's too late you shouldn’t have run.” He replied rubbing the gun against my temple right before...

“Hey! Wake up,” Nathan, my twin brother, says while gently shaking me awake.

“It felt so real, they always do.” I murmur, wrapping my arms around his neck while he pulls me onto his lap.

I look around reassuring myself that I wasn’t stuck in that ghostly house with Anthony and his partner anymore. My room wasn’t your typical nineteen year old room with pink walls and posters of bands plastered everywhere, not that I would want it to look that way.

“Are you going to talk about it this time?” He lightly pushes my fringe out of my eyes, tucking it behind my ears.

“No, there are too many demons in the dark.”

“Soon enough that excuse isn’t going to work anymore and you are going to have to talk about these dreams that you keep getting.”

“Soon enough, but not tonight...or tomorrow!”

“Do you think that you will be able to get back to sleep?” Nathan inquires, shifting around so that he’s leaning against my headboard with my head resting on his shoulder.

“What’s the time?”

“I got home half an hour ago so it's about midnight.”

“Then no, I don’t think that I will be able to get back to sleep tonight. It doesn’t matter anyway I have to be up in a few hours so it's not like I will be getting much more sleep.”

“I thought that tomorrow was your day off, I checked the schedule earlier today and your name wasn’t on the list.”

“It is my day off tomorrow but we don’t exactly have any food here and as a result I have to get up early so that I can go and buy some before it gets too busy.”

“You should’ve asked me before I left for work; I could’ve stopped off at the shops during my break.”

“Well we didn't need food earlier today.” I grumble.

“Then you can get at least five or six more hours of sleep if you try, it's not like the shops are open at one in the morning.”

“I thought you said that it was midnight.”

“No, I said that it was about midnight not that it was midnight. How about I make you a deal if you go fall asleep again tonight, tomorrow I will go to the shops and get everything that we need.”

“Shake on it?” I ask while pushing myself up and sticking my hand out at him.

“Deal!” He says as he shakes my hand.

“Deal!” I agree.

“Do you want me to stay here with you?” Nate asks once I lay back down.

“Yes, please.”

I slowly open my eyes only to have everything around me is hazy. Gradually things become clearer so that I don’t only the outlines of the furniture in the room. I may have fallen asleep in my bedroom last night but it is plain to see that I am no longer there now.

I take my time looking around the room to find a way for me to escape and I can't help but think that I have seen this all before. It isn’t before long that I realize why everything is so familiar to me. I have seen everything before, every time I fall asleep at night. Something in the back of my head is asking me that if this dream came true what stops the rest?
