Rrrrrrriiiiiiing, Rrrrrrriiiiiiing..... It was Adams' alarm clock. He quickly got up and started dressing.
When he was done, he went downstairs to his mother. She was busy cooking his breakfast. 'Good morning mom,' he said as he gave her a peck. 'Good morning. How was your night?' she asked. 'It was great. I slept like a baby,' he replied. 'Okay that's good. Come take your breakfast,' his mom said. 'Sorry mom, I'm not eating. I have to go I'm in a hurry,' he said as he darted out of the living room and then went outside to his bike and rode off.
In school Adams just got off his bike and spotted his friend Chad. 'HI Chad,' Adams said. 'How are you doing?' Chad asked. "I'm good. Who's the new girl?" Adams asked, just noticing the girl beside Chad. "Oh, she's Brenda. Brenda meet my friend Adams," Chad answered smiling. "Hi, Adams," Brenda said. "Hi," Adams said back to her. Adams moved Chad a bit and asked him in his ears, "I saw how you were looking at that girl. I hope you are not thinking of asking her out so soon." Chad answered, "No way! I'm gonna wait for one week first." "You're sick," Adams said to him. "Who's that?" Brenda asked noticing a guy with dark hair and bright blue eyes coming off a bike. "That's Riley. Adams' nemesis in racing," Chad answered. "Please I'm going. I'll be with the girls, meet me there. I don't want to engage in a conversation with him," Adams added. He was then off to the hallway.
He met the rest of his friends standing by Lexi's locker. "Hey guys," Adams said as he approached them. "Hi Adams!" they all exclaimed. "Wow. Some people are very cheery this morning. So how are you guys doing?" he asked. "We're all good as you can see," Alex replied. "So where's Chad?" Lexi asked. "He's with some new girl. But more importantly, where's Max?" Adams asked. "He said he needed to go to the class," Chloe replied. "I hope he isn't planning on a prank," Adams said knowing Max very well. "He puts up really great pranks though. Remember the one he did on Lexi?" Alex said. Earlier that week Max pulled a prank on Lexi. He told her that her hair was all messed up so she should go and wash it up. She decided to do as he said and then went to the bathroom to wash the hair. Little did she know that Max had messed with the bathroom taps. So when she opened the tap, water sprayed all over her face and part on her shirt. "Yeah it was really funny," Chloe said remembering it. "Okay let's not talk about it," Lexi finally said. "Yeah. I have to go check on him. See you girls later," Adams said and then darted across the hallways.
Meanwhile in the class, just as Adams had said, Max was planning on a prank. This time it was on the teacher. He brought out some things in his bag and then dropped it on the teacher's desk. And then just as if he forgot something and then went back to his bag and brought out a bag of flour. He took the bag of flour and then headed back to the teacher's desk. He picked up a sling shot and fixed it in the drawer in such a way that if the drawer was opened, everything inside would jump out. Then he took an air cushion, filled it up with flour and then put it inside the drawer and then still added more in the drawer. Now that the bag of flour was empty, he closed the drawer gently and then put the bag of flour in his bag. He sat on his seat, wondering.
Adams came into the room. "Hey! What's up?" Max asked. "Well, nothing really. Just that there is this new girl Brenda. But you'll know more about her later. So what are you doing here?" Adams asked rather suspiciously. "Nothing. Just wanted to escape the crowd and so I came here to relax," he lied. "Right!?" Adams said sarcastically. "It's good you're not pulling a prank," Adams said. "Not today," Max added.
In class, Adams was sitted next to Max who was blindly staring at the History teacher talking about the World War II. Then Max told Adams a joke and both of them started laughing out loud. "What's so funny you two," the teacher asked them. "Um, nothing Mr. Anderson," both answered together. The teacher continued to explain the World War II. And when he was done, he went to his desk to bring out their scripts. And when he opened the drawer what happened? Nothing. Max thought to his self, "My brilliant plan has failed." But then the teacher noticed the air cushion and then he touched it. Immediately he touched it, it jumped out to his face. His face was covered with flour. The whole class was laughing. "Who did this!?" shouted the teacher. The whole class stopped laughing except for Max. "Oh so it was you two," he pointed to Max and Adams, "I guess that's why you were laughing earlier." "Um no sir. It's not-" "Two hours detention for both of you after school," the teacher said before Adams could explain anything.
It was lunchtime and the friends were on their way to the cafeteria. "You see what you got me into," Adams told Max. "Hey, it's just two hours of detention. What's the big deal?" Max asked. "Wait, don't tell me you were not involved with the prank," Chloe said looking at Adams. "Of course i wasn't," Adams said. "But the prank was hilarious. It had me jumping out of seat for a moment," Alex said laughing a little. Adams just noticed that Chad and Brenda were not with them. Then he asked, "Hey. Where's Chad and Brenda?" Lexi decided to answer, "Chad was showing her around and they said they would meet us in the cafeteria." "I hope he isn't going to do something stupid," Adams said with quite an anxiety. "You're right. I've seen the way he looks at her and it bothers me," Max added. "He's lovesick!" the girls said harmoniously. They all laughed and continued walking.
They all reached the cafeteria and went to sit on their usual spot. That is, in the far corner by the right next to the window. The cafeteria was serving spaghetti and meatballs and the line was long because it was the favourite among the students. As they were sitting and waiting for the line to reduce, Adams asked, "Why haven't Chad and Brenda arrived yet?" Chloe added, "He better comes fast before the spaghetti and meatballs finish," "Yeah. He truly loves it a lot," Alex added. "Not as much as he loves that new girl I guess," Lexi said jokingly. They all started laughing. They were laughing so hard that they didn't even notice when Chad and Brenda came in holding hands. "Why are you guys laughing?" Chad asked. "No reason," replied Max. "Umm, but more importantly, why are you guys holding hands?" asked Chloe with a puzzled look. "Wait, no way!? Don't tell me you asked her out. I thought you said you were gonna wait for one week?" Adams also asked with a puzzled look."Wait. He even told you that he was going to wait for one week before asking her out? That is totally messed up," Alex said. "Well actually, i did say that, but as i was showing her around and telling her about myself and her also telling me about herself, i realised that we had a lot in common and couldn't wait and so i just asked her out," Chad explained. "And what made you accept?" Lexi asked, looking at Brenda now. "Well, i accepted because we did have a lot in common and i thought he was a really cool guy," replied Brenda. "Right?!?" Max now said sarcastically. "Like what do you two have in common?" asked Lexi. "Basketball!" both Brenda and Chad said together. "But why-" Adams was interrupted by Chloe who has been keeping quiet since,"Hey! Enough with the questions. Let's just be happy for them." Lexi agreed, "She is right." Adams now added, " Cheers to their new found relationship." "Cheers!" they all said. "Now, are we going to get the spaghetti and meatballs or what?" Chad asked at last. They all went and joined the line.
At the line, Adams met Riley. "Hey posers, what's up?" Riley unfriendly said. "We were doing good until you came," Adams answered, annoyed. "Hey, hey, hey. I am not here to look for trouble, i just came to introduce my sister to you guys. This is Alicia, my sister, she just moved in and is a racer like me. I bet she could beat you in a race anytime," Riley said. "Hey, I'm Adams. And here are Chad, Max, Alex, Chloe, Lexi and Brenda, my friends. They are really nice people if you get to know them," Adams introduced himself and his friends. "Nice to meet you guys," Alicia said dazzling her eyes on Adams. Although he didn't notice it, Lexi saw her but decided to keep quiet. "Okay enough with the introductions," said Riley. And then they left. They all got their food and went back to their table.
Back at their table they were all chatting while Chad was feeding Brenda. "Yuck. You guys are making me sick. Just leave her to eat by herself, she's not a baby," Max finally said. Chad said to him, "You won't understand it Max. It is a symbol of our love, something you will never understand because you always chase the girls away with the pranks you pull on them." Max then retaliated, "Who told you i even want to date a girl?" Lexi joined, "You're right," she said sarcastically, "I saw how you were looking at that Alicia girl. But let me tell you something, she loves someone else." Max was annoyed now, "Fine, i like her. So what. But tell me who she likes." Lexi just looked at Adams. "What? Me?" Adams asked confused. "Of course you! I saw how she was looking at you. Didn't you?" asked Lexi. "I didn't notice anything. But now that you mention it, she did seem kinda' cool," Adams admitted. "Hey. I hope you know she is the sister of your nemesis?" Chad asked. "Of course i do. And what's wrong if i think she's cool. Did i stop you from dating the new girl on her first day here?" Adams replied. "Hey, i have no defence on that," Chad said. "Okay quit all the chit-chat and eat your food. Remember we have gym class next," Chloe reminded them. "Right," they all said. And so they all started eating their food.
It was time for gym class. Adams was not a fan of gym class. But Chloe and Alex loved it, and this was because they were both cheerleaders. The teacher said they were going to play dodgeball. "Yes!" Adams thought to himself. Dodgeball was actually the only activity in gym class that Adams was good at. The teacher shared the sides. At the end Adams' side ended up the winners. Now that the class was over, they splitted their ways. The girls were off to cheerleading practice, Chad was going to basketball training and Adams and Max were off to soccer practice. "We're off to cheerleading practice guys," Alex said. "Okay. But don't forget to add A-D-A-M-S, Adams the best; to your cheers," Adams said laughing. "Right. We'll do that," Chloe said. "Hey guys. I want to join the cheerleading squad," Brenda said. "Okay. That's great! Just follow us and tryout for the squad," Chloe said. And then they started walking. "Bye girls!" Max shouted. "I guess it's off to soccer practice for us," he then said. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go," Adams said.
At soccer practice, the coach was giving them a new formation and also giving them some new tactics. "For our next match, we are using 4-4-1-1," the coach said. "Wait coach. Which one of us will be the striker?" Adams asked looking at Max, knowing very well that it would be one of them. "Max," the coach answered. "But sir, Adams and I work better together as the two strikers," Max said raising his eyebrows. "I know. I want you guys to try something new this time around. And besides, the other schools are getting used to it now. We are going to play on counter-attack. Adams I want you to be assisting Max. Let him see much of the ball. And you Max, I want your finishes to be perfect. Adams you're on free-kicks. And Cole, you're taking the corners," the coach ordered. Cole was a guy with blonde hair and green eyes. "Let's start off the training with free-kicks. Put the ball 25 yards out. Four defenders stand at the wall. Leo, stand in the post. Adams try to take the ball over the wall and make it come down just in time for it to enter the post. In short, just chip it," instructed the coach. Adams tried it but the keeper stopped it. "Good, good. Try again," the coach said. He tried again. And this time, he scored. "Perfect. Now, try to curl the ball," said the coach. Curling was an excellent ability of Adams. So it was not a problem for him, so he scored. "Perfect. I hope you can do that next Saturday. Now, I want you guys to be attacking down the flanks. And I want quality crosses to be delivered into the box. The crossing should mostly be done by Adams and Tony. Alright, train now with what I told you. Second team by the left, first team by the right. Start training," the coach ordered. They started training.........
Meanwhile at cheerleading practice, Brenda was trying out for the squad. "Melina, meet Brenda. She wants to try out for the squad," Chloe introduced Brenda to Melina, the captain of the cheerleading squad. "Show me what you've got," Melina said. With that being said, Brenda went to the center of the gym and started her routine. She first did a cartwheel. Then a double back flip, followed by a side flip and then ended with a front flip. Everybody was left with their
mouths open. "Wow! That was amazing. You're in," Melina said, impressed. "Okay, let's practice now," Melina ordered. "Wait. Adams said we should add this to our cheers. A-D-A-M-S, Adams is the best," Alex said. "Yeah. Then we can add better than the rest. That's great. Let's practice," Melina replied.
After the practice, the girls were on their way to meet the boys. "Wow Brenda. Where did you learn that from?" Alex asked as they were walking. "Oh, that? That was nothing really. I was a cheerleader in my former school," Brenda answered modestly. "They were really amazing," Chloe said. "Seriously? If you really liked that one, you will like the others," Brenda said. "Wow! There are more? When will you show us?" asked Alex curiously. "Don't worry. Another time," Brenda answered as they kept walking.
In the boys changing room, the players were talking strategies for the game. "We just have to keep passing the ball," Adams said. "He's right. No player should hold the ball for more than five seconds. That way, the ball will be moving fast and they won't be able to get it easily," Max added. "On three we say West Bridge High," Adams said. "One, two, three!" "West Bridge High!" They all said. "Hey, I just remembered something," Adams said. "What is that?" Max asked. "Our detention," Adams replied. "Yeah. Right. Let's go," Max said as they got up to leave.
As the boys came out of the changing room, they met the girls. "Hey. How was cheerleading practice? And where are Chad and Brenda?" Adams asked the girls. "Cheerleading practice was great. Brenda pulled off a really great routine and now she's in the squad. And about Chad and Brenda, they said they were off to Smoothie's and we said we will meet them
there as soon as we get you two. I also told Melina about your cheer and she put it in the routine," Alex said. "What? I was just joking," Adams confessed. "Well i already told her and now it's in the routine. So how was soccer practice?" She finally asked. "Practice was perfect. The coach gave us a new game plan that I'm sure we will win our next match with," Max now answered. "We can't come with you girls. We have detention, remember?. You girls just go on ahead without us," Adams said. "Okay see you on Monday. I might be coming to your house on Sunday," Lexi said. "Here's an idea. Why don't we all go to the movies on Saturday?" Chloe suggested. "Great idea. We all meet at my house and go together," Lexi said. "Okay that's great," they all said and parted their ways.
Meanwhile in detention....... "So you guys came. I thought you wouldn't," the History teacher said. "There was no way we would try to run. We knew that if we did, you will give us detention another time and probably increase the time," Max said, knowing that very well because he has been getting into detention and tried to escape. "Smart boy. You know me so well. Okay, take your seats. Detention starts now," the teacher said. He left them there and went to the teacher's lounge. They both started talking of strategies they would use in the game.
Over one hour later, Adams remembered that he had to pick up the groceries when he was going back home. He also remembered telling himself that he wouldn't forget. "Oh no!" he exclaimed. "What is it?" Max asked. "I forgot that i had to pick up the groceries," he explained. "Don't worry. It's just like thirty five minutes left for the detention to be over," Max said, calming him down. "Okay, fine," Adams said calmly.
After the detention, Adams and Max went to the parking lot. "Got to be on my way. See you on Saturday," Adams said. "Alright. Bye," Max said. Adams got on his bike and was off to go to the grocery store. Max too had and rode a bike but doesn't race. His bike was green with a little touch of black on both sides of the bike. He too got on his bike and rode off.
Adams just arrived at the grocery store and then parked his bike at the parking lot and went into the store.
Inside the store, he quickly thought of all the things he would get. "Milk, tissues, my favourite cereal box, flour, sugar and possibly some jam," he thought to himself.
After thinking of everything he needed to buy, he went off in search. He first got a shopping cart, then he went to get the tissues and milk. After that, he got two bags of flour and sugar. As he was passing by he saw pringles so he picked three and added it to the shopping cart. He was going to go and check himself out when he remembered he didn't get his favourite box of cereal. So he rushed to get it and went to pay.
At the table where he was paying, Adams and the cashier were arguing cause he didn't have enough money to pay. "Oh sir, it's like I'm short of money," Adams said looking into his wallet. "What? Are you crazy? Do you think I'm joking here?" The cashier said furiously thinking Adams was just joking. "No sir, I'm serious. I'm actually short of money. I didn't think it was gonna be more than this," Adams answered innocently. "Well if you ain't got no money you ain't buying nothing. So go!" the cashier harshly said. "Yo relax man," Adams said, "I think I've got some money in my backpack on my bike outside. Lemme go and get it." He then went out the store to the parking lot to get the rest of the money.
When he came back, he saw the cashier already putting his groceries into a bag which confused him cause he didn't pay yet. "Why are you packing my groceries into the grocery bag when I didn't pay you?" Adams asked looking confused. "Someone already paid for you," the cashier replied. "Who's that?" Adams asked more confused, but thought that it possibly might be his dad. "It was me who paid for it," a familiar voice answered. Adams turned around and couldn't believe who he saw............ It was Alicia. She had been watching them argue from a distance and decided to step in. "Oh Alicia so it was you," Adams said surprised. "Yes Adams. I've been watching the both of you argue and I decided to step in," she said. "Okay. Thanks a lot," he said as he grabbed his grocery bag and they went out to the parking lot.
At the parking lot, Adams was still thanking Alicia for helping him. "Thanks a lot Alicia," he said again. "Oh my. Why do you keep saying thank you? I already told you it was nothing. And besides we're friends now aren't we?" she asked with a smile. Adams could now notice what Lexi was talking about. "Yes we are. But if there's anything I can do to make it up to you just tell me," he told her. "Well, I was meaning to ask you," she started. "Yea go on," he said. "I was wondering if you're busy tomorrow cause I would really like us to go to the movies," she finally said. Tomorrow was when Adams and his friends were going to the movies together. "Wow!" he blurted out just remembering he had plans. "What? Too soon right?" Alicia asked looking disappointed. "No that's not it at all. I just shouted out wow because tomorrow is the day I'm going to the movies together with my friends," he explained. "Oh. Okay," she said still looking disappointed. Adams noticed this and then said, "You can join us if you wish. It will even give you a better time to get to know them better." "Yes you're right. I'll be there. It will give me time to know them," she said happily. "Great. I'm sure you'll like them. So we'll meet up at Lexi's but since you don't know her house you can ask Riley for my address and then we can go there together," he said. "Sure I will," she said enthusiastically. "Alright see you tomorrow then," he said as he got on his bike and rode off.
Adams finally arrived at home and dropped his bike in the garage and went into the house. "Hello mom," he said as he walked in and noticed his mom sitting in the living room. "Hi son. I hope you didn't forget to pick up the groceries as I said you should," she asked knowing him well. "No I didn't. How could I? I couldn't," he said. "Says the person who forgot his birthday," she said remembering when Adams once forgot his birthday. "Come on mom. It was just one time. Can't you just forget about it?" Adams said chuckling. "Alright alright. Just go take your bath and come down and take your dinner. I made your favorite," his mom said. "Mac and cheese?" Adams asked with dazzling eyes. He had always loved mac and cheese since he was little. "Yes mac and cheese," his mom answered. Adams rushed upstairs to his room upon hearing that.
Adams just came out of the bathroom and quickly put on his PJs and then decided to call Lexi to let her know that Alicia was going to join them for the movies tomorrow. "Hi Lexi," he said as she picked the call. "Hey Adams. What's up?" she asked. "Well not much. I bumped into Alicia in the grocery store, she paid for my groceries, blah blah blah and now she's joining us for the movies tomorrow," he replied. "Oh. That's cool. But don't you think you're taking it a bit fast with her?" she asked being cautious 'cause she had always been looking out for Adams. "Nah. I just decided to invite her 'cause she helped me out. Nothing more," he answered. "Okay. Well it's alright that she's joining us. See you tomorrow," she said. "Goodnight," he said and cut off the phone. Now it was time to go downstairs and eat dinner.
Adams went downstairs and met his mom in the kitchen. "Where's the mac and cheese mom?" Adams asked anxiously. "Oops. You took so long and I couldn't wait so I ate it all," his mom answered. "Nooo! Tell me you're joking," Adams said almost going to tears. "Hahaha. Of course I am," she said as she brought out a plate with his food on it.
Adams just finished eating his food and went to wash his plate using the dishwasher but then realised that it was not working. "Mom, the dishwasher ain't working," he said. "Yeah yeah. I wanted to call the repairman tomorrow to come fix it since you'll be at home. You know I'm going to the doctor for a checkup," his mom replied. "Oh, okay. No problem. But I'll be going to the movies at night with my friends," Adams informed her. "Alright I'll tell him to come early then," she said to him. "Yes that'd be better. But now I guess I have to wash it with the sponge," Adams said. "Yes, of course you do," his mom said smiling.
Adams was done washing and was now sitting in his room. He was thinking of Alicia of course so he decided to call her. "Hello Alicia," he said as she picked up the call. "Hi Adams," she replied, "How are you doing?" "I'm doing good. Just called to tell you that I've told Lexi about you joining us tomorrow and she's cool with it," he informed her. "Oh that's great then. See you tomorrow then," she said happily. "Yes. Have a great night," he said. "You too," she also said and then cut the line. Now it was time to sleep and wait for tomorrow and see what happens.
