Connor
Life is weird. It has its ups and downs. There's beautiful memories you acquire that you go back to whenever you are happy. There are also things you wish you could forget, but are unable to. At one moment, you are in a high place, and in the blink of an eye you are low. Life isn't fair.
It is unpredictable. It is painful. It is amazing. It is wonderful. Life can be so many things at once, and it manages to make you hate or love it.I definitely had a love/hate relationship with life. And it began when it took my favorite person away from me. My best friend. The only person I completely trusted.
Troye Sivan Mellet.
"I have to go, Connie." said Troye, while looking at the floor, trying to hold back his tears.
"Please, Troye! Don't go! You're my best friend, I don't want to lose you!" I screamed, failing at containing the sobs coming from my throat.
"I don't have a choice. My dad found a job back in Perth and he says it's a great opportunity. You know that I don't want to go, but there's nothing I can do about it." Troye murmured, and looked up to meet my watery eyes.
"I understand, it's just... So horrible to think that I won't be able to see you everyday, or explore around and find things like the detectives we are. I will miss you so much." I said, and hugged Troye with all the strength an 8 year old boy could gather.
"I'll miss you too, Connie. But remember: nothing in this world can tear our friendship apart. We were meant to be friends and we'll keep it that way forever. Someday we will meet again, and we'll have each other for the rest of our lives." Troye sobbed, wanting to make this goodbye a little cheerful, but failing.
We stayed in the same position for a while. Not talking, not arguing about how things would be very different without one another. Just holding onto each other, trying to forget about the situation we were in for a little and enjoying calmly our last few moments together before Troye had to go.
"Troye, darling, we have to go." said Troye's mom, Laurelle, while stepping outside of the house and into the garden where two sad boys were embracing. "I'm sorry, guys, but if we don't go now we will miss our flight. You can always maintain contact through emails and phone calls."
We finally separated and we smiled weakly at each other. I stood up and entered the house to say goodbye to the rest of the family. When I was done, I came back out and saw Troye was about to get into the car. I ran to him, and hugged him one last time.
"Don't you dare forget about me, Troye boy. Or else I'll hate you forever." I whispered into his ear, trying not to cry again.
"You know I would never do that. And the same goes to you." he said mockingly, but still sad. "I guess I'll see you later, Connie."
"Yeah, see you later, Troye boy." I responded, tears streaming down my face once again.
Troye got into his car along with his family, and waved through the window as the car drove away, taking my best friend to the airport. Away from me.
~
At first we did call each other at least once a week, but as the months passed the calls weren't made often anymore. I would call Troye but there would always be an excuse for his absence. He had a lot of homework. He was tired. He was going to the movies. He was going to play at the park. I tried and tried but it seemed like our friendship wasn't the same. It came to a point where my calls were never even picked up. He didn't answer my emails. There was nothing that could guarantee he was still alive. He was gone. Even more gone than he already was.
I guess life can be unexpected in every way possible and sometimes that can cause you pain. It can give you scars that will never let you live without you remembering them. Everyone has one of those scars. And mine was the loss of my best friend, the only person I could have imagined by my side forever. But I guess life just isn't fair.
