On a warm, sunny morning at Storybrook High, a tall girl dressed head to toe in black enters the high school. Amelia, the girl wearing black skinny jeans, a gray cardigan, a band t-shirt, black sneakers, and a dark beanie, walks into the building slowly.
The girl tucks her heat-straightened black hair behind her ear as people step aside and glance at her judge-mentally. She walks briskly to her locker. As she opens it, there is a small mirror hanging on the metallic door. She studies herself humbly. "Dark makeup, fake gages. I'm not even totally tan. I'm... Yellow?"
Amelia whispers to herself as she loads her belongings into the locker. "Hi!" A perky brunette exclaims as she walks up behind Amelia. "I'm Rose. I think we have class together. I own the locker right there," Rose points to the locker across from Amelia's. Amelia waves awkwardly. Rose smiles,"Anyway... Who are you? I'm Rose. Did I say that already? Oh well." Amelia studies Rose.
She's a shorter girl. Very white skin, bright and big brown eyes to compliment her welcoming smile. She wears a pastel pink dress that flares right above the knee with a velvet ribbon around her waist.
On her feet are white flats covered in lace. She wears her straight brown hair in a bun with a bow that matches her dress. "I'm Amelia," She introduces herself quietly. Rose smiles,"I'm 15. You look older than me. 17?" "Yeah," Amelia answers softly.
Amelia seems different from other girls. It seems like a good different. Maybe I'm coming on too strong. What if I'm not coming on strong enough? There's no in-between here. Amelia seems to have a subtle spark in her eyes. I don't know when, but I'm scared she'll blow up with all that hidden secrecy stored inside. I want to be friends with her, but I don't think she likes me. I'll give her a chance, Rose thinks to herself.
Amelia notices a discouraged look in Rose's eyes. She steps up to her, "Sorry." "For what?" Rose asks. Amelia looks down, "Not good a talking to people. I've never talked to anyone this long before." "Really?! You seem so cool! Looks like we've got some catching up to do. Stick with me, and we'll have the best of times," Rose exclaims excitedly.
Amelia accepts Rose's offer to friendship. In no time, they're inseparable best friends. Rose's GodMother adopts Amelia and soon the best friends embark upon a summer adventure. They head down to a small, unnamed town in Florida for a road trip. Rose is about to turn 16 in two weeks.
For the first time, Amelia steps onto Floridian soil. "Look at this town! Amy, let's go to this adorable antique shop!" Rose says as she drags Amelia by the arm, into the shop. "Rosy, the only thing here that I like are the ship models. Find me a compass and I'll stay," Amelia says as she holds up the ship model. Rose smirks,"Way ahead of you!" She pulls a shiny, custom compass from behind her back.
"Buy it," Rose laughs. Amelia rolls her eyes and purchases the compass. The needle begins to spin in multiple directions. "What?" Amelia asks confused. "Grab the bags and let's follow it!" Rose exclaims.
The girls change into different clothes and leave their belongings in the beach house Rose's wealthy mother owns. Amelia wears a black tank top, black leather jacket with metallic studs along the collar, and red skinny jeans. On her feet are black combat boots. She wears her dark curly hair in a ponytail. She wears eyeliner, mascara, and brown eye shadows, causing her dark brown eyes to subtly bolden. She also wears a soft shade of nude lipgloss. Rose wears shorts that end at the top of her thighs. The shorts are accented with lace on the sides. She wears a white tank top with a pink varsity jacket. Her shoes are sandals with creamy white straps, matching the lace on her shorts. Her hair is braided to the side. She wears a bit of mascara and eyeliner, accompanied by a simple pink lipgloss.
"Ready?" Rose asks as they walk in the direction of the compass needle. "I guess," says Amelia calmly. After about ten minutes of needle following, the girls notice a glistening in the forest. "There!" Rose yells as she and Amelia run to the shining in the forest. When they arrive, they see what seems to be a portal of sorts. Amelia steps to it. "No! It could be dangerous!" Rose exclaims. Amelia faces her and pulls up her jacket sleeve, exposing a tattoo in the shape of a tree with golden lights coming out of the majestical branches. "My brother is out there with this same tattoo... Or whatever this is. And the locket. Look at his eyebrows... Just like mine. Peter is out there. I need to find him." Amelia opens a locket exposing two small children, her as an infant and her brother around the age of three. Under the picture are in-scripted names. Rose grabs her hand,"We go together, or not all." Amelia nods and pulls them in.
