HOLY CRAP I HAVEN'T UPDATED
I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN I SWEAR
My grades have dropped again, sorry about that, but they are back up now, so expect more updates! :D
Sleep was hard to come by. Lachlan couldn't stop thinking, though. Where did the other boy come from? He wondered if maybe he was from the lab. It was entirety possible, but yet, if there was another kid there wouldn't he have known? Maybe Rob knew?
Lachlan turned to where he was lying on his side. No, he wouldn't ask him. He didn't want to distract him. Even if he wasn't doing much, with the way things have been going, Lachlan could just say something to him and then bam, they're caught. It could wait until morning, I guess. Lachlan thought. He's probably already covered some distance, anyways....It would be stupid to look for him. There are probably plenty of search parties looking for them, too.
It could wait....
He didn't have any more strange dreams that night. Not that he remembered the first one.
Faint morning sun shone through the thick vines covering the entrance of the small cave. The place felt warmer already. The air was dry and hot, and the ground was warm. Summer was in effect. Lachlan sat up, and stretched. Sleeping on the ground made him stiff, even though he should have been used to it by now, he still found it difficult.
"Glad you're up." Mitch said. "Someone slept in." Rob laughed. Lachlan blinked, adjusting to the light. "Huh?" "It's about ten o' clock." Mitch guessed. "Oh."
Silence filled the small cave. No one really knew what to say. All of them had just met each other. What could they say? Well, there was plenty to be said. Nothing that any of the small group could think of, though. It was an awkward experience for everyone.
"I found something last night." Lachlan started, breaking the silence. "What did you find?" Vik asked, curious. Rob, however, look skeptical. Mitch was hard to read. "Well, it wasn't a something, more like a someone? Anyways, it was a boy. Another hybrid, actually."
"I thought we were the only ones..." Rob murmured.
"I guess we're not..." Vik trailed off. Rob suddenly looked confused. "Wait, if he's not new, then why haven't I-we seen them before? You think we would have saw him by now, you know?"
Vik changed positions, seeming to not have been comfortable in his previous one, then spoke. "Maybe it was like me, and how I wasn't.....stable enough?"
"Well, I did get to interact with him, not really talking, but he didn't seem to trust me. He ran off into the woods, so that could very much be it." Lachlan explained, leaning back against the wall.
"What did he look like?" Mitch asked.
"Well, he had brown hair..." Lachlan paused, like he was trying to remember. "Yeah, he was a cat hybrid. Brown eyes, I think? He was wearing a suit for some reason. No idea why... Oh, yeah, he had some weird lava pattern bandana aaaaaaand tie."
"Okay, so I defiantly have not seen him before." Rob said.
"How do we know he's from the lab, though?" Vik asked.
There was silence for a second, before Lachlan spoke. "Where else would he be from?" Yet again, there was quiet.
The day progressed as the sun climbed up the sky slowly, creating more and more heat. The cave provided a shelter from the sun, which the small group was thankful for. This day was far hotter than the last, and hopefully as hot as it would get. Those who wore jackets had taken them off in attempt to cool down. It was about 90 degrees outside (32 degrees Celsius).
There were thoughts of venturing off to find water and some food, but due to the risk of them being caught, they thought it would be best to wait until night. Even then it would be dangerous. He, like many others, had heard of the evil that supposedly lurks in the woods every night. They were just myths, fortunately. To him they were just tales to tell children; to make them be good. They were nothing more than stories to tell around the campfire at night.
So the day passed on slowly, but at least they weren't still stuck in that treacherous place. Who knows what could have happened to them had they been stuck there any longer. Lachlan shuddered at the thought. Some clouds were now building up over somewhere nearby. The group hoped for rain. If it did rain, they wouldn't really have to leave the cave to go look for water... That would be pointless, and not to mention, risky.
And then, another thought came to him. How long were they going to be stuck there? Hopefully not much longer... What was next? After they leave the cave, where do they go? Normal people wouldn't accept them. I mean, come on. This isn't one of those stories where random rainbow haired girls with two neon, different colored eyes roam the streets with their cat ears and tails. If a group of hybrids were to just casually head out into the city, what do you think would happen? Not good things, that's for sure.
"Hey, guys, there's some rain up over there." Rob pointed out, dragging Lachlan from his thoughts. Rob was sitting at the entrance of the small cavern, the leaves pushed aside so he could look out. His ears were percked up, and his fluffy tail was wagging slightly. He had a light blue tee-shirt on instead of his usual blue jacket, which he had in his hands.
"Rain?" Vik asked, hopeful.
Mitch had packed plenty of resources in his bag, but he hadn't packed water. Just a small amount of food. You couldn't blame him; there was only so much he could take without them realizing things were missing.
"Yeah, and the wind seems to be blowing in the right direction." Rob added.
Something however seemed off about this to Rob, however. You could see it in his facial expression when he turned around to face the group, no longer seeming as happy as he did before. The air now felt strange, Lachlan realized, like before a storm. They could no longer hear birds chirping happily outside. All they could hear was the wind blowing softly around them. Suddenly a large gust of wind flung it's wany into the cave, causing the vines that once provided coverage to blow around wildly, still clinging on to the cave's roof.
As quickly as the strong wind came, it was gone. Lachlan stepped forward to peer through the vines once more. He saw thick, low clouds in the distance, not too far away. They covered the land for miles. He couldn't see past the clouds, actually. The clouds looked more like a wall. Gray lines seemed to be coming down from the huge clouds, which he guessed was rain. He heard a soft rumble in the distance, followed by a dim flash of something frighteningly familiar. Lachlan felt Rob tense beside him.
He didn't even need to say anything. Everyone else already knew. The thunder is what gave it away.
"How bad is it?" Mitch asked. Lachlan shook his head. "I can't tell." Another crack of thunder split the air, louder this time. Mitch and Vik seemed to have the same idea, and that was to look outside. "It looks kind of bad..." Vik trailed off.
Lachlan turned around and walked back into the cave as another strong gust swept through the air. This time the wind was yet again slightly stronger, but this time also slightly longer. The cave was the best shelter they had against this.
"Is there anything we can use to block the entrance with?" Rob asked. "Ooh," Lachlan started. "We could block the exit up with rocks, and take shelter over there." He pointed to a turn in the small cave towards the back, or the place where Vik and Mitch had slept the night before. "We could do that..." Mitch said, looking back to where Lachlan pointed. Another round of thunder was heard, and you guessed it, it was louder.
They were unable to find much to block the entrance up with, so that was out of the question. All they could really do was stay behind the sheltered area, which should be enough.
Hopefully.
~--- The land in this area of Minecraftia was mostly flat, with a few hills here and there. Anytime it rains here, it usually storms. The rainwater runs off the hills and down into flat land below, creating floods. The group did not know this at the time. Now, dear reader, remember this knowledge for later on. ---~
