Love Thy Wolf Mate
One:
~~~~Luke's P.o.v.~~~~
Despite what some movies and books may have said mating a human isn't all that difficult. There's only one known way to make the mating stick, however, but it isn't really all that hard. All it takes is a kiss on their eighteenth birthday, at precisely midnight. That's it, nothing to complicated about it. One kiss and they're bound to you for the rest of your lives.
The human doesn't even have to know of the repercussions of the kiss, they don't have to consent and there's nothing they can do about it once its happened. After the kiss its almost physically painful, on both sides, to be away from one another. Any other's touch but that of your mate will make you physically ill. Its almost like you're incapable of being without your mate around after that kiss.
Nothing has ever sounded better to me. Being bound to Kayla for the rest of our natural born lives has to be the best idea I've ever had. If only I could go through with it.
“Luke, come on. You're worse than Micah and I had to threaten her with violence. Please?” Kayla pouted at me, placing her hands on her hips.
I shake my head, again. “I don't like parties, Kay. You know that.” Being around so many humans makes me anxious, makes me want to shift and run away from it all. Therefore, I do my best to avoid large crowds of people and if Kayla's twin, Micah, doesn't want to be there then there's guaranteed to be a bunch of people.
She huffed, rolling her dark brown eyes at me. “Please? You don't even have to stay very long, just a couple hours.” When I shake my head again, moving past her to grab a rag to wipe the grease and oil from my hands she stomps her foot. “Its my birthday, Luke. You're going to make me celebrate my birthday without you?”
If I was smart I would, because the temptation to kiss her at midnight would be too great. I don't think I'm strong enough to resist.
“We'll celebrate this weekend, okay? We'll go to the cabin, just you and me. How does that sound?” Her eyes narrow when I mention my family's cabin and I hide my smile. She fell in love with the place last summer and taking her there for her birthday just might make telling her the truth a little easier. Maybe.
“Do you promise?” She sighed, wrinkling her nose when I cup her cheek with my grease covered hand.
“Definitely. Alright?” Please let it be alright, I don't know how much longer I can keep telling her no.
She blows out a slow breath and nods, kissing me lightly on the lips. “Don't think this means you're off the hook, though. I really wanted you there tonight, Luke.”
