Love Thy Wolf Mate

Seven:

~~~~Micah's P.o.v.~~~~
The walk back took longer than I'd expected, but that was probably just because I kept stopping along the way to argue with myself on whether I really wanted to go back or not. Sure, I was dying to know what surprise Luke had for me, but I wasn't entirely convinced that I should want to know. Part of me wanted to just turn around and pretend Jack hadn't said a word to me about it. The other part, the dumber part, as willing to do just about anything to know, of course, that was the side that won my internal argument. It always does.
That didn't stop my mind from racing, however. All I could think about that this surprise was something bad. Every scenario running through my head ended horribly. For me. I was getting myself worked up, I knew it, but I couldn't help it. Nothing I did was calming my erratic nerves. No amount of pep talks were working. And by the time I got to the front door I was ready to bolt.
I couldn't go through with this. No way, no how.
Standing in front of the door I bite my lip and take a step back. Opening that door was a big no-no. I'm better off just turning around right now and finding some way to get back home. Stopping everything Luke and I have been doing behind Kayla's back would be the best decision I could ever make. Opening that door would not.
Because if I open that door I'll end up going into the cabin and if I got into that cabin-well, do I really need to spell it out? In short opening that door would be the biggest mistake that I could never take back.
Just as I turn to walk back down the front steps the door creaks open slowly. I blink over my shoulder, expecting to see Luke standing there watching me with that annoyingly breathtaking smile on his face only to find the doorway empty. As though to door had opened all on its own, like in one of those bad horror movies. You know, where the first idiot to walk through the door ends up being gutted the minute they set foot inside. Or their head gets chopped off.
And that just made my nerves worse. Great.
“Luke?” The inside is dark, all the lights turned off except for the ones in the kitchen. My tummy gives a little flip as I walk through the door, nearly jumping out of my skin when it swings closed again the minute I'm in. I swallow peering around the dark hallway for anything that would cause the door to swing open and shut on its own. “Its just a draft, Micah.” I hope.
It was quiet and the farther inside I walked the quieter it seemed to get. It was an almost creepy kind of quiet-at least, it was until Luke cam barreling down the hall at me cursing under his breath. The murderous expression on his face would have been funny if it was directed at me.
“What are you doing here? You're not supposed to be here yet.” He grabs my arm, pulling me back to the door muttering under his breath. “Damn Jack, I told him to give me an hour to set up.” He shoots me a nervous glance and sighs. “I'm afraid I'm not quite ready yet.”
Huh? “Ready for what?
He ignores me, murmuring a list of ingredients under his breath as we come to a stop in front of the door. Luke opens the door and gives me a slight shove forward. “Please Micah, I just need a little longer to finish... everything.”
“For what!?” The only answer I get is a peck on the lips before he slams the door in my face. “Uh-he-Luke!” My fists bang on the door to no avail and I really feel like stomping my feet and screaming at the top of my lungs. Damn, stupid boy.
What was the point in having Jack come and tell me Luke had a surprise for me when he was just going to kick me out the minute I walked through the door? What did he think was stopping me from just walking back in?
