dates and damsels in distress

_____

It's been a week ever since the paint fiasco and Lucas still hasn't made his move yet. However, I very honestly wasn't surprised, what with that Missy Bradford stalking him like a lost puppy, saying really desperate things like, "Your hair is absolutely gorgeous today, Lucas!", Huckleberry really couldn't have any time to plan his revenge on me.

I'm lost in my thoughts, thinking of ways Lucas could take his revenge on me and how I could easily avoid each and every one of them until I walk right into my locker. Ouch. I let out a soft whimper and rub my nose, frowning.

"God, Maya, you're such a klutz," grinned Riley as she arrived, punching in her locker combination code.

"So much for the 'Hello, Peaches!' I'm supposed to get," I mumble and she obviously heard it, because she beams a smile at me. "What's got my sunshine so happy today?"

Her smile manages to grow wider, and she squeals delightedly, "I got asked out by Farkle!"

I let a cool façade hide my inner feelings - utmost confusion. That's really sudden, I didn't know they had feelings for each other, bad friend alert.

"Cool," I say, even though I was far from keeping cool.

She cocks an eyebrow. "Cool? Is that really all you're gonna say? Not gonna ask me about it? Not gonna freak out?"

"Why Farkle?" I ask. "You've always been after Lucas anyway."

She rolls her eyes. "I've stopped liking him since high school, you know that."

"Because of Farkle?"

"It's just that I've come to realise that I could be more compatible with Farkle than with Lucas, ya' know?"

"So anything in your love life?" Riley smirks, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.

"Sorry to disappoint, Hun, but this girl is perfectly happy living her life on her own."

But she's distracted by something on the ground, and she bends over to pick it up. When she stretches back up, I see that she's holding a post-it note.

I stretch my hand out to snatch it but she grabs my hand before I could do so.

"Roses are red, violets are blue. I'm starting to think I'm falling for you." Riley reads out loud, her face lighting up with newfound excitement. "Damn, Maya, you told me you didn't have anything going on!"

"I don't! I bet that post-it's not addressed to me," I say, giving her a small shrug.

"But it is!" Riley insists and she shoves the thing into my face, pointing at my name at the top left corner of the bright yellow post-it.

"Oh," was all I managed to sputter out.

"Looks like Peaches has a secret admirer!" Riley exclaims a little too loudly.

"Could you say that any louder? I bet the people at Hawaii haven't heard you yet," I retort, a blush creeping up my neck.

"Hello Maya," a voice drifts to my ear from behind me. Lucas.
