glue and girl problems

_____

"How many times has he hurt you this month?" Riley asks, her voice a low growl of annoyance.

"Riley, calm down," I laugh nervously, forcing a smile onto my face. "I honestly can't be bothered to care about Lucas Friar."

"You think I don't know? You think I'm that dense, Maya?" Riley's voice takes a harsher tone as she takes a step towards me, her eyes darkening with anger.

"What?" I ask, obviously confused. What the heck is Riley trying to say?

She lets out a loud bark of laughter, yet it holds no humour. "It seems even you still haven't realised it yet."

"Never mind. This time we will show no mercy. This time we will strike back hard. This time we will stop him," Riley grins maliciously as she plops herself right beside me by her bay window.

You've awoken this monster, Friar. You've insulted her OTP - which unfortunately is both of us - and now she is more of a Maya Hart than Maya Hart herself. Lucas Friar, you're dead meat.

"Okay," she finally calms down. Her eyes soften, and a genuine smile returns onto her face. Good lord, is she bipolar or something? "How are we going to handle Lucas?"

"Honestly, there's no point in taking revenge, Riles. This is just going to go back and forth over and over again," I sigh, running a hand through my hair.

"Are we honestly switching roles right now? Am I now the overly aggressive best friend who has to be stopped by her responsible best friend?" she replies, her voice holding no emotion, just like the smile she's wearing.

"Okay, sure, if it makes you happy, we'll do something about Huckleberry," I give in. At this stage, it's much better to stay on Riley's good side. Getting on her bad side honestly isn't an option if I value my life.

"What's happened to Maya Hart? Now she's a peacemaker too?" Riley gasps mockingly and in retaliation, I push her and she stumbles to the floor.

"What was that for?" she pouts, sticking her bottom lip out.

I mirror her expression. "You hurt my feelings."

We burst out giggling, laughter echoing off the walls of her room.

But, unfortunately, Riley has not in fact forgotten about taking revenge on Ranger Rick. So I've poured water on his head, gotten pecked by pigeons, slipped a frog down his shirt, had pink hair for a week, gave him pink hair for a week, "gotten mugged", kicking him in the crotch in the process, filled his room with balloons and scared him, on the account that he had hurt my feelings too many times. What Riley is planning to do this time, I'm not sure of, but her Fangirl Mode allows her to do anything and everything. Except murder. I think.

Okay, so she said it's a surprise, the prank I mean, and if she's doing this without me, it's either because she's really confident or it's illegal. I think it's probably the latter.

"Hi Lucas!" she greets him cheerily, plastering a fake smile on her face. And oh my God, she can act so well she could be starring in Broadway.

"Um, hi Riley," he smiles at her before hesitantly casting a look at me. I catch his eye and I see something flash within those emerald irises. Hurt. I know that look anywhere.
