David, the best-man, started.
"Well, I'd first of all like to say congratulations to the bride and groom. Pearl is a great lass and perfect for my little brother. I remember when Troy went on his first date with Pearl. He was so nervous he must have changed his outfit about twelve times. But at the end of that night, after the date he phoned me up and he said, 'mate, this ones a keeper'"
Everyone laughed at that bit.
"I never realized how in love they were until I witnessed it myself. Pearl, Troy absolutely adores you and I just want to say, welcome to the family. To pearl!" He said raising his glass.
"To Pearl!" We all repeated raising our glasses and then clapping.
Oh crap my turn.
I nervously stood up and began to read my sheet of paper.
"So.. As most of you know, I grew up without a dad. My mums had a few boyfriends because you know, she's gorgeous. But ultimately I never had a father figure. But that all changed when I was 11. Troy came into my life. At first I didn't think it was that serious. He was fun and he always brought me a lollipop when he visited."
Everyone laughed at that bit.
"When I was about 12 and a half I accidentally walked in on a deep conversation. Maybe one I wasn't supposed to hear"
Everyone laughed again.
"Troy told my mum he loved her, that he'd protect her and cherish her.. He also told her that he loved me and that he's never leave me in the dark. That was when I knew I really did like him. Troy treats my mum like a queen. And you know what's better, she knows he's her king. So Troy this is a toast to you... For all the good you brought in our lives, for when you sneakily gave me ice cream when you babysat me, that time you threw icing powder all over my mum and she threw and egg at your face. For all the times you've been there when we've needed you the most! To Troy!"
"To Troy!"
