Glasses shattering were the only thing I could hear from outside.
"Stacey!" I called out to her from the balcony of my home, "Must you make so much ruckus?"
"Yes, I must, my lady!" She joked.
"Come inside! Bring that broom on the porch with you, please. Thank you!" I yelled down.
She walked into my room without knocking, and immediately her eyes landed on my hourglass. She went to touch it and I slid in between her and the hourglass.
"No!" I said, "Do not touch that hourglass!"
"Why?" She asked curiously.
"Uh, it is very valuable and has been in my family for generations." I lied.
"I promise I won't drop it. It's just so beautiful!" She gushed and began walking towards it again.
I snatched the hourglass away from her reaching hands. "I said no, Stacey!" I said harshly. Her mouth hung open as I scurried away to place the hourglass in a box in the basement. She must never discover the horrible thing this hourglass has brought upon me or the pain it brought my family and I. She would never believe me and would most likely turn against me as my mother turned against my grandmother centuries ago.
