I was walking out of the local hospital in Mystic Falls with a duffel bag containing more blood bags for me.
I needed to stock up on the stuff since my kids would be coming home soon.
The people of Mystic Falls were starting to consume vervain but thankfully that didn't affect me or my children so we could carry on with our ways.
I suddenly saw Alaric being rushed into the hospital on a stretcher with dried blood around his mouth followed by Jeremy who had a bruise on his face and Elena. None of them saw me as they ran past.
"I wonder what's going on" I thought, following after them.
"It looks like he has a few broken ribs and internal bleeding and that's why he's coughing up blood. He should be fine" a doctor said to Elena and Jeremy.
They nodded and took a seat in the waiting room, both of them looking distraught.
"I'm going to kill Klaus" Jeremy said angrily. My eyebrows rose at that statement.
"Jeremy..."
"What? He almost killed me through one of his hybrids but Alaric pushed me out of the way and took the hit from the car" Jeremy exclaimed.
She wrapped an arm around his shoulder, pulling him to her. That's when Jeremy began to cry.
"It's all my fault. If I hadn't been stupid enough to be compelled none of this would've happened"
"It wasn't your fault Jer. It's Klaus's not yours" Elena assured him.
He nodded and leaned on her shoulder, crying. I felt sorry for him, honestly.
He was brought into this whole crazy supernatural business because of his sister who was a doppelganger.
Jeremy should be living a normal life and instead he's losing the people he cares about the most.
Alaric came out then and Elena and Jeremy immediately rushed to him, hugging him before pulling away.
"So the ring brought you back to life but it didn't heal you. Does that mean it's broken?" Jeremy spoke from behind Elena.
"I don't know. It's never happened like that before. I guess I have Damon's blood to thank for the fact that I'm still walking"
Jeremy smiled then, "He said to tell you that you owe him a drink"
Alaric laughed, "That's funny. I'd rather have head trauma..." He stopped and looked at Jeremy seriously with a little concern, "Hey Jer, you okay?"
"Of course he's not okay" I mentally scoffed.
Jeremy shrugged in response, "Why shouldn't I be okay? I shot a hybrid in the back and cut off his head with a meat cleaver. Typical day, right?"
I looked at Jeremy a little sadly. Again, he should not have to be living such a life at his age.
"Hey. You can talk to me about this stuff, you know? I'm here for you" Alaric offered him a sympathetic smile.
"What could you tell me that I don't already know? This is the way things are now and it sucks but I just- I just have to get used to it" Jeremy said, "I'll be in the car" and he walked away, leaving Alaric.
"Hello Alaric" I said, finally making myself known. Alaric looked over at me and visibly stiffened.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
I gestured towards the duffel bag I was carrying, "I needed to stop by for food and I saw you being rushed in. Figured I'd see what's going on"
"Yeah. A hell of a lot is going on" Alaric sighed, running a hand over his face.
"Hey. You'll get through it like you always do" I smiled at him.
I didn't tell him what was in store for his future though. He didn't need to know of that anytime soon and I couldn't mess with fate that way.
That's the heavy burden that I had to carry. Some people would think that knowing things before anyone else was a great thing but sometimes it wasn't.
I wasn't going to complain though because that's the card life gave me and I'd just have to deal with it.
"Thank you" He smiled a little, "You know, I thought you'd be a lot meaner but you're actually kind of nice"
I laughed, "That's one of my sides. I can be nice, I can be bitchy, I can be cruel, it all works to make me a well rounded woman" I said. He chuckled at that.
"I've got to go but take care. Watch over Jeremy as closely as you can. There is much in store for him" I said, turning away.
"Wait" Alaric called after me. I turned to face him. "Do you know something?" Alaric asked me.
I smiled sadly, "Dear Alaric, I always know something. I am sorry but I can't explain, otherwise it will cause problems that you and your family will not want" I told him.
It was true. There was a time long ago when I was young and naive. I tried to stop an event from happening and in the process another event happened that was a whole lot worse. I learned my lesson.
Fate should not be messed with.
"Thank you" Alaric told me. I nodded before walking away, out of the hospital and to my car.
I drove to Klaus's mansion and walked in despite all the construction still going on past all his hybrids working.
"Klaus?" I said, not bothering to raise my voice since I knew he'd heard me. In a second he used vamp speed to appear in front of me.
"How are you?" he smirked, leaning against a finished wall.
"Fine. I heard you attempted to kill little Jeremy?" He frowned, his mood suddenly switching to anger.
"I need to force Stefan's hand. He has my family and I do not like being put in such a position" he growled.
"I wish you would have kept innocent people out of it, Nik" I sighed.
"Why? Do you care for the people around here?" I scoffed.
"You are only making them hate you more, which in turn means they will once again attempt to kill you and I'd rather not have to save you. I have things to do" I crossed my arms.
He tilted his head with a smirk, "You would actually save me, Love?"
I didn't respond, I just stared at him. He walked closer to me until he was standing close to me, just a few small inches away.
He was taller than me by a couple inches so I had to look up at him.
"Tell me. Do you have feelings for me?" he asked.
I smirked and took a few steps back, "Maybe" I winked at him and walked away, hearing him chuckle as I left.
