Mason's POV
"Well, here's the bridge..." I heard Candie say. We stopped in our tracks to face a huge red bridge leading to the Island. It was the same as a normal street, except that it had very tall iron gates at the edges of the sidewalk. Plus, it was over the Antonio river (made that up :p). After I was done looking at what was in front of me, my eyes averted over to Candie. She was blowing into her hands because of the cold wind. I guess she finally noticed I was staring at her, since she suddenly turned her head the other way and spoke up.
"Y-You know, you can leave now and make a run for it. What lies beyond the other side of this is something unimaginable. It's pure hell" She teased while facing me and making stupid faces. I couldn't help but chuckle a little.
"Oh, trust me, I'm brave enough. I've crossed oceans just to be able to protect you from evil."
"Well then, we better get going!" She shouted while raising her arm in front of her.
We reached about halfway across the bridge when Candie suddenly stopped. I turned around to look at her. "What's wrong?" I asked. She didn't answer. Instead, she walked up to the gates and gazed off into Antonio river. Her little curly piece of hair on top of her head that was always sticking out was blowing in the wind. Confused, I walked up to her and stood right by. It felt like minutes passed by, and she didn't mutter a single word. I was starting to get worried. "Oi, Candie." I called out. No response.
"Candieeee....."
I waved my hand in front of her face. It seemed to work as her eyes widened and jumped back in surprise."Wha...Um...Sorry!" She flustered. "I was daydreaming again...I'm so sorry!"
"No worries. Eh, why were you daydreaming anyways?" I asked.
"Oh, I don't know. I guess sometimes I do weird things, sorry if I creeped you out.."I smiled. "Oh, stop apologizing already, It's alright, honestly."
That made her smile widely and clasped her hands together. Then suddenly, I saw her light hazel eyes sparkle brightly through her black glasses. I felt myself staring at her for a while. Something about her is just so...cute.
Wait, what am I saying right now?
"Beautiful." I heard myself slip the word from my mouth. Candie turned around to look at me. "Eh?"
"Th-the river I mean. It's beautiful, along with the sky." I've never felt so embarrassed as I felt a little heat creep in my face.
"Oh...Mhm, isn't it? I just love it so much!" She smiled again at me.
Ugh, Candie stop doing that!
Just then, I thought up of something. I crouched down facing the opposite of her. Maybe if I have her on my back, she wouldn't be able to see my face. Which was pretty red by now."What are you doing?"
"Giving you a ride, obviously."
She paused and hesitated for a moment. "Okay... but why?"
"So that we make sure you don't take anymore daydreaming stops." I managed to say.
"Uh..alright then, are you sure? I may be heavy..."
"Yes, Candie. Don't you know I lift?"
"Lift what, doughnuts?" That made a laugh escape from me.
"Wow, very funny." I teased.
I felt her climb onto my back and place her hands on my shoulders. Slowly, I rose while i held onto her legs. Wow, she actually feels a little lighter than I thought.
"Alright, march onward!" She demanded as she pointed to the other end of the bridge.
"Will do, your majesty" She giggled and made jokes the whole time I was walking. And I couldn't stop smiling.
I know all I was supposed to watch the Ceremony with Frank, until he bailed on me. But I can't help feel something else too- I'm not sure what it is though. Hopefully, this feeling will disappear when we actually reach the Island. At least...this wont be so bad after all.
