The rain forest was dense, puddles of water were just about every where Kuro climbed around on the base of the tree trunks to avoid getting stuck in the mud.
"Shiro! Hurry up it's almost dusk!" Kuro called.
Kuro looked back to see Shiro stuck in mud up to her knees, she struggled desperately to pull herself out using the nearest tree root. Kuro grinned remembering Shiro arguing to Kuro about being able to take care of herself, which was why she was tagging along. Kuro waited and watched still grinning from ear to ear when he saw the lights.
Shit! A Cruiser!
Kuro ran over to Shiro and started to pull her out.
" I can do it myself." Shiro said
" We gotta go!" Kuro said as he continued to pull.
Shiro turned around to see the slowly approaching cruiser, sweeping the forest floor looking for any surviving humans.
Shiro and Kuro pulled and pulled finally Shiro was free, and the cruiser was now only 50 metres away
Kuro knew these cruisers weren't the best of alien technology, still using infa-red cameras it was the grandpa of cruisers, but it still would see them if they stayed at this distance so Kuro grabbed Shiros arm and started running in the opposite direction jumping over puddles and tree roots.
Meanwhile the cruiser was gaining ground. Kuro and Shiro ran as fast as they could Kuro still leading Shiro by the arm. Kuro jumped over a log in the way with ease, Shiro not so gracefully as she tripped and landed face first in the mud.
The sound of her face making contact with the ground was picked up by the cruiser, which in response started its pursuit.
