It turns out that Ruth told Aaron about what happened the previous night so he wanted to stop by and see how things were going. When he was there, he woke Jaes and asked where I was. They figured I was just going to get food or something similar and that I would be back later. Well, later rolled on and I didn't show up so they got worried enough to go looking for me. They even checked at my house just in case my parents kidnapped me back.

I thought he would be mad at me, but Jaes just thought I was funny and laughed at it. He didn't once yell at me. He even took the night off from work to keep an eye on me. However, that means he has to work tomorrow. Aaron offered to stay and watch me instead but Jaes wanted to do it himself.

We all finished the night by watching a movie together in the living room. Jaes sat next to me with his arm laying over the back of the couch behind my shoulders. I'm a little glad he didn't pull that one move to do it. The one where the guy yawns and drapes his arm around the girl's shoulders. It's kind of funny when I see it in movies. He wasn't touching me though, just hovering ever so close to me. I wanted to scoot closer and bridge the half-foot gap between us, but every time I went to do it, my heart began to pound. It made me so nervous even thinking about it. Still, I was satisfied just being as close as I was to him. I could smell his cologne and feel the warmth of his body radiating from his direction. He hadn't bothered to spike his hair, but he did brush it out with water so some of it hangs loosely over his forehead. I kind of like it more that way.

After that night, we needed to find a way to get all of my clothes from home. Jaes had to work for the next few days so Aaron volunteered to take me during the day. Going at night is too risky since it's a much more likely time for my parents to be home. Aaron was even nice enough to take me out to eat. We spent the whole time talking, getting into subjects like school and work. I find out that he works at that shop in the mini-mall which has the internet references. He also works at a bar downtown. I had so many questions for him that I was curious about.

"I heard you and Jaes dated."

He glances at me over his sub-sandwich. It's weird eating food with someone. Jaes always sat with his bottle of blood, so seeing someone eat normally feels strange. "Yeah, that was about six years ago."

"How come you broke up?" I take a sip of my tomato soup. The red color reminds me of blood. Maybe I'm spending too much time with vampires. Ha! No way.

"I got older... I didn't want to join him in the underworld and we both thought it felt strange that I would turn into old man while he remained young forever. It'd just be weird, y'know?"

I guess I can imagine that. I too would find it weird if I were an old woman and dating Jaes. Or imagining it in the reverse, if I were young girl and dated an old man. The thought makes me shiver. Even if Jaes is about a hundred and eighty years old, it's not the same as if he looked that old. He still retains the same youth that he had when he was sixteen, so it feels natural to be attracted to him. I'm only a year older than his physical age, but how long will it be before I stop looking appealing to him?

"It's not like we were torn up about it. Sure, it sucks, but I'm not so immature that I would get butthurt over not dating him. We were best buds then and we'll still be best buds when I'm old and gray." He takes another bite of his sandwich.

It makes sense. When Jaes told me that he didn't feel the same, I felt more ashamed that I was getting ahead of myself. I was at least satisfied to be his friend. "I know what you mean."

Staring at Aaron, I realise more and more that he doesn't seem like a typical gay guy. He has dirty blonde, medium length hair for men which is brushed to the side and the start of a beard growing on his jaw. He doesn't have the notable lisp or girlish appearance that are characteristic to gay men. He acts like a normal guy, but I guess looks are deceiving.
