We arrive at the audition site at about 1:00. The auditions are being held in a nice building with the words 20th Fox Century plastered across the front. Dylan and I gather our courage as we walk towards the building after parking in the packed parking lot."Are you ready?" Dylan asks me as we approach the doors.
"As ready as I'll ever be... You?"
"I'm ready... I'm ready! I'm ready! I'm ready!" Dylan begins imitating Spongebob Squarepants, obnoxious laugh and all.
I laugh, grateful for the distraction from the butterflies stirring in my stomach. I lightly shove Dylan as I pull open the great doors to the grand building. As we step inside, I feel my breath disappear. It was absolutely packed! There were at least a thousand people just in the lobby. Dylan and I exchange a glance. All of a sudden, people are everywhere, swarming Dylan and I, asking for autographs and pictures. We take some pictures with fans and sign some autographs. Most of the fans have photographs of Dylan and I from our latest show, Wicked Witchcraft a show in which we were the co-stars. Dylan played Jared Losme, and I played Ashlynn Rose.
Wicked Witchcraft is a show about two teenagers who discover they have special abilities and must learn to train and use their abilities for the greater good. The series finale aired just a week prior, so fans are still buzzing with excitement.
After the crowd has mostly dispersed, Dylan and I make our way to the front desk to check in. Since we were called here by the casting agents and specially requested to audition, we get to be the first group to go. We audition in groups of 6. The characters Teresa, Thomas, Minho, Newt, Gally, and Frypan all audition together. That meant that Dylan and I will be auditioning with 4 other guys. A cast of guys. Oh, how fun.
After checking in with the front desk, we were directed to go to Dressing Room #1. We make our way to the dressing room with the butterflies in our stomachs growing in size and strength with every step we take. I'm so nervous that I end up dropping my bag. I bend over to grab it and my hair gets in my face. I start walking again while trying to get the hair out of my face. All of a sudden, I feel myself run into something... Or someone. I fall backwards, losing my balance and landing on my rear end on the ground. I hastily push all the hair out of my face as I look up to see what I ran into, and my eyes land on a gorgeous male with dirty blonde hair. Dylan's standing behind him, laughing his head off at my misfortune.
"Oh lord, I'm so sorry! It was my fault, I shouldn't have been texting while walking," the kind young man exclaims as he reaches out his hand to help me up. I can't help but notice that his accent is British. I blush as I take his hand and let him help me up. I let go of his hand and brush myself off while trying to regain my dignity.
"Oh god, no, it was totally my fault... I should've stopped and got all the hair out of my face before I tried walking again. I mean after all, I can barely walk without running into stuff even when I don't have hair covering my eyes," I laugh at myself. The kind stranger extends his hand again, but this time in an introductory manner.
"I'm Thomas. Thomas Sangster. Well actually, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, but that's a mouthful, so I usually just stick to Thomas Sangster during introductions," he blushes and I realize that he's a bit flustered.
"I'm Bailey. Bailey Jane. I mean Jane's not really my last name, it's actually my middle name, but I prefer to go by that because it has a nicer ring to it," I extend my own hand to his and shake it.
"Bailey Jane. What a beautiful name for such a beautiful girl," he smiles and I realize that I'm just kinda standing there like an idiot. I'm flustered and I try coming up with an adequate response.
"I-uh-um-uhm," is all I can really stammer out, and Thomas laughs at my response, releasing my hand. Finally, after my head clears, I manage to respond legibly.
"It's nice to meet you, Thomas. So you're here to audition for The Maze Runner as well?" It's a stupid question, I know, but it's all I can really think to say. He seems to think it's cute.
"Yeah, I'm auditioning for the role of Newt. I'm in group one, and I've been wandering around aimlessly for the past 15 minutes trying to find Dressing Room #1... Is there any chance you guys might be heading that way?" he asks in his gorgeous accent. Dylan finally steps in.
"Oh, no way man! Bailey and I were just on our way! I'm Dylan, Dylan O'Brien. And unlike you two weirdos, I actually use my real, full name during introductions." I roll my eyes, something I seem to be doing a lot of lately. Dylan shakes Thomas' hand and we start walking towards the dressing room.
"So you're auditioning for what role?" Thomas asks Dylan.
"Thomas. Not you, I meant the character Thomas. Man, this is going to be extremely confusing," Dylan says stupidly. Thomas laughs and turns to address me next.
"And I'm assuming that you'll be auditioning for Teresa then? I mean since she's really the only girl in the movie," Thomas blushes again, and I smile.
"Yeah... I really think that it'd be cool to work with an all-guys cast. Just to try something new," I respond, surprised at how easily I could talk to him once I got past all the stammering.
"That also means that all the guys will be competing for your attention. It's definitely bound to be interesting. I mean, not to say that I wouldn't be one of those competitors," he finishes with a shy smile. Dylan wags his eyebrows at me from behind Thomas. Luckily, at this exact moment we end up by the dressing room. We hear voices inside.
"Well, I guess this is it. Let's get ready for what could be the audition of our lives," Dylan says dramatically as he swings the door open. He enters the dressing room, Thomas and I following suite.
