Thomas Sangster: I Fell... In Love

Chapter VI

After our eyes adjust to the lights, our group makes our way towards the front of the stage where six movie-style chairs sit, all having "Group One" marked across the backs. We reach the front and find our seats. Once again, I find my spot right between Dylan and Thomas. Dexter and Will are next to Thomas, and Ki-Hong is next to Dylan. After getting settled, I look out into the audience for the first time. I instantly spot Kaya sitting in the front row with a few others. I smile and wave to her, and her face lights up as she stands up and cheers. There are tons of fans in the audience with signs of us all, and I make eye contact with a few fans and wave, sending them into fits of screaming. Dylan and I look at each other and laugh. An announcer walks out on stage and a hush falls over the audience. There is an excitement in the air that's like nothing I've ever experienced. 

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! My name is Julius Trolen, and I'm here to deliver the cast list of the new movie, The Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball. I know we're all eager to get to the cast list, so without further ado, I will now begin reading off the names. I'll start with the biggest characters and work my way down. If your name is called, please stand up and make your way to the front! Best of luck to you all!" I feel my heart beating in my ears. Group one all grab hands as we await our fate.

"The character, Thomas, will be played by..." I squeeze Dylan's hand reassuringly. 

"Dylan O'Brien!" Dylan jumps out of his chair as the applause starts back up. I cheer so incredibly loudly as Dylan makes his way to the front.

"The character, Newt, will be played by..." Thomas and I exchange a glance. I mouth good luck, and he responds 'You too,'.

"Thomas Brodie-Sangster!" Thomas also jumps up out of his chair, turns and smiles at me, and I cheer. He walks to the front of the stage to stand next to Dylan.

"This character, the only girl character, Teresa, will be played by..." Will leans over and grabs my hand as I try to contain my nerves. 

"Bailey Jane!" I can't even believe my ears. I'm going to play Teresa. I'm going to be in this movie. Will releases my hand as I slowly stand up, trying to process it all. I'm in. Everyone in the audience impossibly cheers ten times as loud. Dylan and Thomas run towards me from the front and pick me up in a hug at the same time. They carry me to the front of the stage, and then gently set me down. Thomas and Dylan are incredibly enthusiastic, which rubs off on me, and soon I'm smiling and cheering and laughing with everyone else. I catch Kaya's eye as she smiles and jumps up and down, giving me a thumbs up.

The rest of the cast is announced. Somehow, all of group one made it through. No one was really surprised, though. Many people were disappointed, but luckily, my friend's and I weren't. A few names for smaller, yet equally important, roles were called, but most of them were people I've never heard of.

After all of the names were called, we make our way offstage. 

We somehow make it out into the lobby to be swarmed by fans. There were thousands of people everywhere, blinding camera flashes, and deafening sounds. Thomas, Dylan, Dexter, Ki-Hong, Will and I find Kaya standing outside next to my car.

"Surprise!" she shouts as she runs up and hugs me. I'm speechless, my head swirling from all of the excitement. I introduce her to the guys, and once they all meet, excited chatter breaks out.

"I can't even believe it..."

"... feels like I'm dreaming!"

"This is unreal..."

Kaya shushes everyone.

"I believe that there is something we must do... Celebrate! I know this really awesome pub downtown!" she exclaims. Kaya, Will, Dexter end up going in Kaya's car while Dylan, Thomas, and Ki ride with me. I hop in the drivers seat and Dylan jumps into the passengers side, leaving Thomas and Ki to sit in the back.
