Authors note: Hey all! I really hope you're enjoying my story. I just wanted to let you know that there is one or maybe two parts left after this! So please vote and even leave some comments! I love talking to people! (:

Also, if you want to get the full effect of this chapter you should listen to the song: Hold it, kid by The Weeks. (Full credit for the lyrics goes to them.) At some point I will it in with my own lyrics but The Weeks are definitely my inspiration for this chapter.

Love ya'll!

Jarrod was right about how the band was about to start. The sound of band members tripping over the equipment, their faint mumbling of profanities and the quiet murmurs of the audience filled the room. I wasn't even faintly interested in the band at this point. I was perfectly content with my beer and my back turned to the stage enjoying the jokes and laughter of my friends. Suddenly a voice clears his throat and the light undims. "S-sunnie," Cassie stutters.

I look up to see my friends wide eyed and jaws dropped, starring at the the stage. Standing there in all his urban hipsters glory was the roadie. "Testing. T-testing." His deeps voice echoes. My heart sinks as I feel my entire face turn red. "Uh, yeah," he laughs and shakes his head; his wavy hair bouncing from side to side as he plasters the most adorably terrible half grin on his face. "This song goes out to the girl in the Big Pink Ballerina Bunny Princess costume."

My heart starts to race as I stand up while the music slowly starts. "Well it gets cold in here. These years they pass with fear...." The words effortlessly roll off of his tongue.

"I-I know this song," I gasp as Jarrod walks up next to me. "I know this song. Heather!"

Roadie doesn't look at me as he closes his eyes, grasps the microphone with both hands and a sings into the air. "Just dry your cheeks. Girl, wipe your eyes. Just close the door. It'll be all right." Tears filled my eyes as he finished the song, "...don't love you anymore." Every one clapped and whistled as he bowed his head as the band started another song.

I sat back down with my mind reeling. I could hear my friends questioning me about what had just happened but I was far away from them. I was back in Heather's room. Just fourteen years old with my head in her lap, crying as she ran her fingers through my hair. "It will be okay Sunshine," she cooed, "nothing is as terrible as it seems."

This was right before the doctors told her that the chemo treatments weren't working and right after my parents split up and both walked out on me. Left with my older marine brother and his pregnant librarian wife I was sure this was the worst thing that could happen to me; not thinking about the fact my best friend was fighting cancer. "Impress me, H. Get my mind off of things." I sniffle as I sit up.

"Brandon just gave me a copy of his cousin's band's new album. There's a song on it that I want you to hear. It might help." She lightly smiles as she turns on her CD player.

"I am impressed," I snub, "only you would have a song for this occation."

"It's one of the many reasons you love me." She laughs as she pulls the scarf from her hairless head and hands it to me. "Wipe your nose and listen." She insists as she presses play.

"Well it gets cold in here..."
