3. (Sam, Cas)

"You want me to do what?" I frowned, watching as the Archangel and the Angel of Death exchanged glances with each other before they both looked towards me.

"Sam, it's not that big of a deal," Death said, staring at me boredly. "Michael was meant to help save humanity and so were you."

"Yeah, I understand that part, but why the hell can't he just do it himself? Why do I need to be his vessel?" He already HAD a vessel, didn't he? Cause I could see him clearly right now.

"Because no one else will be able to hold me," the angel said, his blue eyes glowing. "I have too much power for just any vessel, and God created you specifically for the reason of being mine."

"But you already have one-"

"No, I don't," he cut me off, sighing. "Sam, you are merely seeing the hologram of myself. The real me is still up in heaven waiting for the green light."

In other words, he was waiting for me to say yes to him. But...I wasn't sure I could do that. Don't get me wrong, I was all for saving the world and destroying Alistar, but the way that Death and Michael had explained it...it meant that I was gonna die in the end. And I'm sorry, but a part of me still hoped to be with Dean after all of this. To see if maybe he could redeemed again.

"It's just something to think about. I understand that you've had a very eventful day, so I'll leave you alone for now, but just know, Sam, that the longer you wait to yes to me, the closer Alistar gets to taking over the planet." And with that, the angel disappeared, the sound of wings flapping echoing in the opening of the forest before it was just Death and I.

"I wanted to beat Alistar myself...not be someone's meat suit," I said honestly, watching as the being eyed me curiously.

"You're still hanging onto what Bobby taught you. That fate and destiny aren't premade. That you make them yourself." He stated and I nodded, surprised that he even knew that much about me. It made me wonder what else he knew. "But here's the thing, Sam. You came crawling to me for help. You begged me to assist you in saving this world and the only sure-way to do that is by letting Michael do his part. Any other way might and very will possibly result in not only your immediate death, but the destruction of this entire world." His eyes bored into mine. "I have seen people die many times, Sam. But I have never caused the deaths of any one of them. Would you be able to live knowing that humanity was extinct because you didn't want to make one small sacrifice?" And before I could say anything, he disappeared too, and I was left standing alone in the forest.

Again.

My phone buzzed and I sighed, debating on whether to answer it or not before I decided on opening the message.

Cas: I left Bobby tied up in his living room. I'd untie him before the man resorts to chewing on the rope.

P.S. Be careful, Sam.

I guess I wasn't entirely alone, I thought with a grimace, jogging my way back in the direction of the cabin. But Bobby was gonna be pissed at me for leaving him back there.

Greaaaat.

"Something's off about you," Dean said to me the second I entered the hotel room and I froze, my eyes flickering between the two vampires before I sighed and lifted up my sleeve. I was hoping they wouldn't notice so soon, but I guess the cat was out of the bag. There eyes landed on the cut I had gotten back at the house.

"Right...there's uh, something I need to tell you guys..." I started but Trevor was already right on it.

"You're a human?" He gaped, rushing forward from his spot on the wall and grabbing my arm, his eyes wide. "Holy shit, Cas! How'd this happen? What'd you do?" He whispered, but my eyes were focused on Dean's, watching as curiosity and hope flitted through them.

If only he knew the price that I had to pay for this...risking his life...

"I don't know," I lied, finally breaking my eyes away from my mate and over to the vampire that kept poking at me with excitement. "I didn't even know it happened till Bobby pointed it out."

He gave me an incredulous look. "Seriously?" He asked, finally pulling away from me to chuckle bitterly. "Great. The guy doesn't know how he managed to do the impossible. Fantastic." He said dryly, and a quick glance in Dean's direction showed that he was just as bitter about it too. His eyes more dull now compared to what they were before.

"Look, we can worry about Castiel's humanity later. Right now, we have bigger problems to solve. And that's dealing with Alistar," Dean gestured for me to shut the door and I did, taking a seat on the double-sized bed beside Trevor as Dean stood in front of it. "I'll repeat what I told Trevor. Clearly Death wanted me out the picture, or else he wouldn't have sabotaged me back there in the cabin. So his position in this whole war is foggy right now, but Sammy..." he drifted off, "..but Sam still trusts him, so we're gonna have to deal with him later too. As for Alistar...well, you know a lot about him, right Cas?" I tilted my head. "You know, since he told you about you being his decoy," he clarified. "Did he say anything else? Anything that might be a clue as to what the hell he plans on doing?"

I bit my lip, trying to think back to my time when I was trapped in his captivity, but it was so damn hard to focus on it without remembering all the beatings and blood that I faced. I flinched at the thought, nearly falling off the bed when I felt a hand on my knee.

"Hey...I get it, Cas. I felt it too," Dean said softly, his green eyes warm and kind. "Every time I slept I lived through your pain. Every hit. Every cut. Every...burn." I swallowed. "But we can't let him get away with that, okay? We need to do this. Now did Alistar mention anything else?"

I sighed and closed my eyes, skimming through my memory to see if I could find one that might've been useful to use. "He...he mentioned something about Town Square," I murmured, my brows furrowed in thought. "He might've said something about getting more new recruits, but I know for sure that he isn't going to put off his attack for that," I reopened them, my eyes instantly captured by those shining emerald orbs.

"Good job, Cas," Dean smiled then he glanced over at Trevor. "You think you and Cas could go get a bag packed for us?"

"Duh."

Dean chuckled. "Great, then put all the blood and uh, food, you guys can get, because if Alistar plans on starting his attack in Town Square then we're going to need to be ready before hand. I'll go and get my weapons from storage, and we'll all meet back here by seven, alright?"

"Aye aye captain!" Trevor saluted, jumping up from the bed and grabbing the bag. And even though this was a serious moment, and that this situation meant life or death...

All I could think about was the fact that Dean's hand was still on my knee, and that he was finally, finally, starting to look at me like I was something more than just some guy.
