The television had been on for hours without end as he watched the news from his hotel room in the westernmost part of Zacatecas, Mexico. The country had been in a state of emergency for several days, almost an entire week due to the warnings that Hurricane Valentina would hit the western part of the country in a day or two. This devastating news was coming just one year after Hurricane Patricia hit the only spanish speaking country in North America. Patricia hadn't done nearly as much damage as everyone had thought. It had been almost a miracle, that a hurricane with that much power and that much projected destruction could slow down in its intensity that much.
People in the religious community believed it to have been an act of God. That the Virgen de Guadalupe had blanketed the Catholic country with her mantle.
The same was happening now. The hurricane was getting closer and time as ticking. He was running out of time to get there, and he was completely immobilized in a hotel room, left to watch as the country was to be hit by Hurricane Valentina.
The closest he had gotten to her was Zacatecas because all the roads leading into Nayarit were blocked by police barricades. People were allowed out of the ocean side Mexican state, but not in.
"With winds of up to two hundred and seventy miles per hour, hurricane Valentina is expected to touch land tomorrow afternoon. The destruction is will leave in its wake is expected to be ten times greater than last year's Hurricane Patricia." The woman on the television screen explained while, behind her, the images on the map showed the hurricane progressing in a computer simulated time lapse on the news screen. "This will be the most dangerous hurricane of all time to hit Mexico. We recommend for the people of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, and Nayarit to evacuate their homes as soon as possible and travel to other nearby states where there will be government provided shelter. People in the neighboring states of Sinaloa and Guerrero are cautioned to remain in their homes until the storm passes."
He brought his head into his hands and let out a frustrated sigh. There was no way anyone could survive that storm if they remained in the hurricane's path. And he also knew that there was no way for her to get out of there in time, not with her situation.
But he couldn't get to her. All he could do was wait for the storm to pass, and by then he was sure there was a chance it would be too late.

so here's the prologue for this story. like i said, this one was going to be about copa america 2015, and hurricane patricia hit a few months after. so i was gonna encompass my plot around that. but since its already 2016, im going to write it about that one, and pretend there will be another hurricane hitting mexico (god forbid <3).

i hope you are having a wonderful weekend, and if you're american, happy memorial day on monday. if you have any family members who fought in any war to defend our country and perished, may they rest in peace. i know this holiday is to remember our dead heroes, but also, if you have any active military service members, thank them for their hard work to keep our nation safe from any threat <3
