There once was a little girl, so full of joy and so oblivious to the outside world. She had parents who loved her and siblings who cared. Everyone got along just fine.
Dinner every evening and night hugs before bed. Her mother and father loved each other so and her brothers on fought in the video games. Everyone got along just fine.
Her dog scampered down the halls when the bright sun illuminated the windows every morning. The birds chirped, the trees swayed and "good mornings" could be heard. Everyone got along just fine.
Every Sunday's sunrise was spend praising the lord and every Sunday's sunset was spent with a new puzzle and some soft music. Everyone got along just fine.
But as day turned to night and smiles faded to yawns, something inside the little girl began to change. She no longer spoke a "good morning" and she never hugged a goodnight. She slept in on Sunday's and when out the following night. But everyone got along just fine.
Her brothers fought in more than just the video games and meals turned into snacks. The birds stopped chirping and the trees stood still. Her dog stopped scampering. Everyone got along just fine.
Illuminated sunrises turned to dark sunsets, but her parents still loved each other so. And as things inside this girl continued to change, her outsides began to change. Her frail stick-like body turned into an hour glass figure. Everyone got along just fine.
The girls mind traveled to new destinations and the girl began to explore more places she didn't know, places outside of her comfort zone. Everyone got along just fine.
During those journeys she found herself skipping curfew to hang out with the new crowd, one person in particular. And of course, her loving parents and caring sibling started to notice. Everyone got along just fine.
The "I love you's" turned to "where have you been's." But the girl continued to change, or rather, she continued to notice what had always been there. Everyone got along just fine.
Snacks turned to skipped meals and standing trees changed to dead leaves. Silent nights were altered to quiet sobs and dark night skies were changed to dark bedrooms. Everyone got along just fine.
Her brothers fought in school and birds fell from the withered trees. Church less Sunday's turned to vigorous bible studies. Everyone got along just fine.
This girl tried to reverse the changes and ignore the the thing she found inside herself. She wanted to go back to the flightless days filled with puzzles and goodnight hugs. She wanted the nightly meals and the caring brothers. She wanted it to be the way it was before the changes, maybe even the way it was before she found herself. But as she knew, everyone got along just fine.
She rehearsed the two words late at night when no one could hear her, or so she thought. Loving parents gave her worried smiles and caring brother became concerned, but she continued to explore. Everyone got along just fine.
That is until the two well-rehearsed words changed her entire destiny. She was in her well decorated living room when her life took a 180 twist. As those two words left her mouth, happy smiles turned to angered expressions. Everyone got along just fine, right?
She was kicked from her own home. Dark rooms turned to gloomy streets and worried smiles changed into strangers passing, all because she spoke those two well-rehearsed words: "I'm gay."
Everyone didn't get along just fine.
