Prologue

  My Heart,

I must apologize to you. If your reading this, that means ill fate has befallen me and I will never be there for you when you need me most. It pains me even now to have come to the point where I must compose this.

The asphalt was hard and unforgiving as the blond woman slipped on the ripped hem of her jeans and fell. Mentally, she cursed and smacked the ground before giving herself a boost to continue running.

Her head was doing two different things at the same time. The creative side of her brain was having a panic attack. That side was thinking about where to hide so she wasn't butchered like the rest. The logical part of her brain was figuring out what needed to be done. What amends needed to be met before she was caught; that side of her brain was telling her she was already as good as dead.

If you have located this, it means your true self has awakened. If this is so, then proceed with caution for your life is already in peril. I made the wrong choice and am paying dearly for it years past. Trust only those you know you can and be certain of them and their intentions above all else.

Sweat was already running down her face. Her musles were screaming for a rest. Her lungs were working in overtime. Pretty soon, her brain whispered, she was bound to make some mistakes.

The men that were after her were not going to make mistakes. They would not tire from this chase. By centuries, they were older and had trained for nearly as long. They were heavily equipped to kill and were just as determined.

Remember that there is safety in numbers, as has been the law of humanity since the dawn. Take care, my heart, for not all are safe. Some will seek to lie and cheat and worm their ways inside your trust and they will destroy your true essence when given the oppertunity. Trust only those you know you can and be certain of them and their intentions above all  else.

Bound by Law, those that were after her could not come close to the House. If she could only get there, she would be safe. It would be a temporary safety, but safety nonetheless.

And, she only needed a little extra time.
