Kira sat silently next to her mother, Noshiko, on the couch, placing a mug of tea on the wooden table for her as she was set up a game.

Noshiko hummed to herself, placing the black and white marble pieces into separate bowls and pushing them to opposite sides of the board.

"This looks like checkers. Maybe mandala." Kira scrunched her face in confusion, leaning forward to get a better look.

"It's not," Noshiko turned to face her daughter. "It's a Japanese game called "Go" and it's played by the Nogitsune against his victim."

"So what Stiles is playing with the Nogitsune right now?"

"Yes," Noshiko nodded grimly. "What Stiles is playing with the Nogitsune right now."

Kira closed her eyes. Does she just come out and ask, or does she stop while she's ahead and avoid the topic entirely? Walk away and not save her friend? No. That was not her, not something she could do or live with if she did.

"Hey mom?"

"Yes Kira?"

"I need your help." Kira gulped when Noshiko's face contorted in confusion. "Well, we need your help."

"With what exactly?"

"The Nogitsune." Kira shrank back when she felt her mother's hand clamp over her own, a quick heat shooting through her fingertips.

"Kira, dear, this story is very twisted." Noshiko sighed, looking into the dark, almond-shaped eyes of her daughter. "Promise you won't think any different of me?"

"I could never." Kira reassured her, turning her hand over so she could squeeze her mother's.

Noshiko took a deep breath, eyes casting down to the floor as she began her story. "The Nogitsune was first summoned in 1943 by a kitsune. That kitsune was me."

"What? Why would you -" But she was interrupted as Noshiko continued her story.

"It was an attempt to gain revenge on the soldiers at the Oak Creek internment camp during World War Two." Noshiko watched as Kira visibly tensed. Kira had heard the stories of the Japanese internment camps in her high school history classes and she knows well what had happened to her mother at those times. "Instead of inhabiting myself, as i had prayed, it inhabited the bandage wrapped dead body of my past lover, Corporal Rhys. He proceeded to kill everyone at the prison camp and in Eichen House."

Kira felt herself making pieces fit together and, before she could stop herself, she asked, "Did you know that Stiles was in eichen just a few weeks ago?"

"Yes." Noshiko nodded, remembering when Sheriff Stilinski came to talk to her about what would be best for a short time. "Did you know that happens to be the place where Rhys died?"

Kira's felt her heart start to hurt for a man she never knew and for her mother, who lost someone so dear to her. "I'm sorry."

"It was many years ago and I've long recovered." Noshiko smiled. "Your father and I are happy together."

Kira, needing more information fast, shot her another question. "So how exactly was the Nogitsune defeated?"

"By myself, and a female werewolf named Satomi, in the tunnels beneath the camp."

"How did you do it? What was your weapon of choice?"

Noshiko pulled a rusted katana from underneath the coffee table. She slid the sheath off, revealing a broken handle.

"What? Where's the blade?"

Noshiko didn't answer, tilting the sheath and allowing broken pieces of shiny metal to tumble into her palm.

"It shattered?!" Kira was honestly shocked. Never had she ever seen a sword broken, let alone this broken.

Noshiko nodded. "I have not known a thunder kitsune strong enough to repair it yet."

"Maybe one day you will."

Noshiko agreed, knowing wholeheartedly that her daughter would be the one to do it.

"One last thing."

Noshiko turned and gave her full attention to her daughter, allowing her to finish flinging questions left and right.

"Do you have any idea where we can look for clues on why it's back and possessing our friend?" Kira looked at the map of Beacon Hills that was etched into the table. She looked at every supernatural point, trying her hardest to decipher the answer.

"After Rhys' death, a fly flew out of the host body. I captured it in a jar and buried it beneath the Nemeton." Noshiko stood up, walking to the front door and opening it. "You can start by checking there."
