Age Fifteen

I slipped a hoodie over my old Green Day t-shirt before clattering down the stairs. I burst into the kitchen-purely for the satisfaction of the door opening really quickly and that moment of feeling like an evil queen in, like, movies. Jacey jumped, from where she had been falling asleep on the table and I grinned at her impishly. Her blue eyes glittered.

"Y-your eyeliner is s-smudged." I told her, cursing my slight stutter.

"Fuck off." She muttered, picking up a spoon and trying to fix it. "You're stuttering again." I threw my hands up in the air.

"I-it's e-early!" Jacey laughed at me as I fixed myself a bowl of cereal. I brought the first spoon of Krave to my mouth as Isabella (read: Bella) trudged through the door and flopped down at the table, blonde hair pooling around her head.

"Someone put her out of her misery."

"Jacey! Do not talk about killing your sister again!" Mum's scream echoed through the house.

"Mum!" Jacey screamed back. "It's too early to be screaming!" I rolled my eyes and finished my cereal; putting the bowl in the sink as I left.

"Luke, really?" I looked down at my outfit. "Ripped skinny jeans? To school?" I rolled my eyes and sighed, before continuing quickly so she couldn't attack me in the hall.

"Th-they're c-comfy M-Mom a-and i-it's a n-non-school u-uniform d-day." I shouted, taking the stairs three at a time. I went into my room and flopped down on my stomach in front of my bed. "C-conv-verse, c-converse." I muttered to myself, before triumphantly pulling out one all-black converse. "Wh-where's th-the o-other o-one!?"

Five minutes and two spiders later, I found the other shoe and pulled them both on before lacing them up and jogging back down the stairs. Jacey was leaning against the hallway sipping what looked like a coffee (I knew better, it was hot chocolate) and Bella was fixing her makeup in the hallway mirror. I smiled at them both-Bella didn't return my smile but Jacey gave me a small half smile.

"It's too early for this." Was her only comment before she tipped her head back to lean against the wall, shutting her eyes and taking a sip from her hot chocolate.

"Ready to go?" Mum clattered down the hallway swinging car keys around her finger, her lipstick smudged slightly across her cheek. Dad lumbered behind her.

"Sure." Jacey said, pushing herself off of the wall and discarding her cup on the shelf under the mirror. "By the way," She said over her shoulder. "Your lipstick's smudged." Mum's and Bella's hands flew to their mouths. Stifling a laugh, I followed Jacey out into the rain.

I was squished in between Jacey and Bella. Jacey was humming along to a song blaring out through the speakers in the car. Bella was texting one of her many friends. Me? Well, I was playing games on my phone. I couldn't focus, it was too early. Jacey poked me in the cheek.

"Lu." She whined, elongating the sound. "I'm bored." She dropped her head onto my shoulder, her hair fanning out and going into my mouth. "Lu, why are your shoulders so broad. And you're so tall. I don't understand." After removing strands of her hair from my mouth, I patted her on the head. We'd been driving for all of two minutes; Jacey had the attention span of a fly, I swear to god.

"Th-that, d-dear Jace, is c-called g-genetics."

"But, Lu." Oh, great. Bella had started now. "You're like nine foot tall." I rolled my eyes. "So much taller than me and Jacey. And mum. And dad. Why?" I leant my head back against the head rest.
