The Daughter

The next two weeks were hard but exhilarating.

Spencer and I worked hard to plan our English wedding and were hard at work preparing everyone for the trip.

We didn't mind the fact that we were still pregnant for the wedding, it meant that it'd be just as special as memorable.

We would still be allowed to fly within the safe time-frame, and it would mean we could meet my grandpa before time really stole things from us.

Everything was going smoothly.

Until my phone rang after two that morning.

"Chief Hotchner." I groaned sleepily; Spencer's arms tightening around me as I leaned out of bed and answered my phone.

"Chief Hotchner, this is Detective Markowitz from Scottsdale, Arizona."

"Yes, Detective?"

Spencer sighed into the skin of my shoulder, turning his face into my back, his lips brushing my skin as his freshly shaved face swept against my skin giving me chills. I all but moaned down the phone.

"I'm sorry to disturb you Chief, but it's happened again. We've got another body."

I thought to myself for a second before remembering; Hilda Davis, Hilda Carter and Hilda Reed; three female victims killed all across Arizona over the past three years.

"Where now, Detective?" Detective Markowitz had made the connection when Hilda Reed had turned up naked and slashed in the dumpster outside the back of his police station in Scottsdale.

At my alerted remembrance I slid out of bed with a bout of willpower; Spencer moaning and whining as he dropped to the mattress.

I reached for my dressing gown and slid into it; tying it closed as I pressed my phone between my ear and my shoulder; listening to the Detective talking as I headed out of the bedroom and across the hall to the study.

The Lover

"Baby..." Melanie's voice softly brought me back to consciousness and I sat upright; seeing her in the bedroom doorway, leaning against the doorframe absentmindedly running her hand across our bump as she smiled at me.

I blinked hard against the light in the bedroom and rubbed my eyes and face, trying to wake myself up as I began to come to terms that Melanie waking me up so early had to mean only one thing; I had a case.

"Where am I going?" I asked, dropping my hands to my lap and smiling up at her.

"Scottsdale, Arizona," She smiled, pushing off of the doorframe and scuffing over to the bed.

I climbed out of bed; pressing a kiss to her forehead on my way to the closet.

As I got washed and dressed Mel briefed me entirely and packed the case-file into my satchel while I made coffee and donned my coat.

"I've already called everyone else, I have the team plan in there for my dad so if you could make sure he gets that and make sure you call me with every update."

"As always." I smiled, turning to her by the garage door and sighing at the thought of leaving her again.

"Be careful." She said worriedly, taking a step forward to straighten my tie and scarf and run her fingers through my hair.

I smiled and sighed soothingly at her touch as she ran her fingers down the side of my face and held my chin as she stretched up and pressed a kiss to my lips.
