I sighed as the last bell rang. I'm off today, I sighed at the letter in my hand. They wanted to meet with my parents again. Why were they so persistent? I began to walk home, not far. I watched cars and people pass. Families, not a single person is here alone. Mother's and children, men and women, aunt's and nieces, dad's and kids.

I opened my apartment door. I threw my bag on the couch and started dinner. Then I pulled the letter out if my bag and grabbed a piece of lined paper. Then I began to write with my left hand. I'm so glad I'm an ambidextrous. (I need to note something right here. Even ambidextrous can write with both hands their writing looks different. I'm an ambidextrous so I kinda know.)

To Whom It May Concern,

Unfortunately we are unable to attend this meeting due to family problems. We sincerely apologize and hope to be able to attend the next meeting.

The parents of Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano

I cringed at my name and put the letter in my backpack. Then the oven dinged and I pulled the meatloaf out of it. I sat it on the counter and headed to my room, bringing my backpack. I opened my bedroom door and my ears were met with two sharp barks. I smiled at my two greyhounds. I dropped my backpack on my bed and flopped next to it. I wasn't hungry anymore.

I turned on my tv to something random. Stupid Spongebob, even that idiot has family. I sat up and grabbed my phone, heading to my bathroom just wishing some music would blast my worries away.

I let the water run over my skin as Twenty One Pilots shared their words in the form of music. I'd die for you. That's easy to say. We all have a list of people that we would save.

I almost laughed bitterly. I grabbed a towel, wrapping it around me before stepping out of the shower. I wrapped another towel around my wet hair.

I quickly pulled on my pajamas and got to work. I had homework and paperwork. Being student body president isn't easy. I swiftly finished and shoved everything in my backpack.

I appreciate Bella giving me the day off. My boss at Walmart. I layed back on my bed, smiling as Argentum, one of my dogs, jumped up next to me. I whistled and Aurum joined us.

I petted their heads, thinking. If I skip the next field trip, I can catch up on rent. Who wants to check out colleges anyway? I can't afford college and my scholarship chances were pretty slim.

I sighed as SpongeBob laughed at something on the TV, hugging his mom who was a cookie for some reason. Even that idiot had somebody. I glanced at the picture on my dresser.

My mom was smiling widely at the camera, my sister in her arms, her baby bump was clearly visible. My dad had his arm slung around her waist, he wasn't looking at the camera. His attention was on her. I recognized the love in his eyes. I sighed and turned onto my side closing my eyes. I fell asleep quickly.

My dream was hot. It was hot and bright. I felt my eyes and throat burn. And then there he was. My dad, my hero, was there. He scooped me up and ran down the stairs and shoved my out the door. "Stay here. I'll come back. I promise." Those big men in the funny hats came, the firemen. I waited and waited but he never came back.

It got hotter and hotter. I wanted my dad and my mom and Hylla. I cried and yelled for them. Dad never left me anywhere but school. I wasn't ready for what happened next. A man pulled me toward him and crouched, using himself to shield me as an explosion shook everything I could see.

A loud sound resonated through the air as another explosion shook the ground. For a second everything was white hot and bright. Then men kept putting water on the fire as my dream faded to black.
