The sound was loud, obnoxious, irritating and quite unbearable. Without lifting my head from my comfortable duvet I smack the snooze button on my alarm clock. I'm glad it's Tuesday because I usually don't have to go into work as early as the other days. I snuggle my head back into the duvet and try to drift back into sleep. Another loud and obnoxious sound reaches my eardrums and prevents me from drifting off into sleep. Without opening my eyes I grab my phone off my nightstand and answer it.
"Who is this?" I ask in my unattractive and raspy morning voice.
"Reg, it's Em and I always wake you up. You never get up with your alarm clock and I would like for you to keep your job." She retorts with a laugh at the end.
"I don't know what I would do without you." I say as I finally open my eyes. I pull back the duvet and sit up on my bed. "I'm awake now so I believe that your job is done."
"Whatever, can you meet me at the coffee shop?" She excitedly ask me.
"Sure, see you soon." I say and I hang up the phone. I stretch my arms over my head and let out a long yawn. I glance out the window of my balcony and look at the city. The sunrise was gorgeous in the various hues of orange, red and yellow. I yawn again and walk into the bathroom.
I stare into the mirror hanging above the sink. My bed head is completely uncontrollable, the dried saliva clung to my face and my makeup from yesterday makes me look like a raccoon. I vigorously wash my unsightly face. Looking ten times better I shed my nightwear and take a shower. I don't even attempt to wash my hair because I'm not in the mood.
After my shower I walk into my large closet. I quickly scan over all the clothes I have. Due to my unhealthy shopping habits it takes me a long time to find the perfect outfit. I walk back into my room with the articles of clothing. I quickly dress in the blue blouse and black pencil skirt I picked out. Once I was done getting dressed I grab my purse and walk into my living room.
I drop my purse onto the couch and walk towards the kitchen. I usually don't eat breakfast but I am practically starving right now. I grab a banana from the fruit bowl and I sit at the counter as I switch on the news. Nothing interesting has happened lately and I flick through the channels. I check the time and it's 7:30. I throw out my garbage and put on my heels that I left by the couch last night. I grab my purse and head out the door making sure to grab my favorite blazer from the coat rack.
I walk into the elevator and press the lobby button. I've lived in this apartment for about two years and it's amazing. The view I get from my apartment is glorious and the rent isn't too hard on my teacher salary. The elevator dings as it opens up to the ground floor. I swiftly walk through the lobby. On my way out the building I say good morning to the door man.
The streets of New York are always crowded. Surprisingly today no one has managed to bump into me. I walked down about ten blocks until I reached Culture Espresso. I walked into the doors and spotted Emma in our usual spot. She looked up from her book and waved at me. I walked over to our table and sat across from her.
"Since when did you read?" I ask as I grab the book from her hand.
"Well hello to you too and it's just a book that I was planning on doing a play of. It's really interesting if you want to read it."
"No thanks I'm too busy to read." I say as I hand her the book. I take a sip of the coffee that she ordered me.
"Oh yeah, I forgot about your busy life with your imaginary boyfriend and your fully packed schedule. There's this guy I know and you would really like him if you're interested."
"Why are you so mean to me? Why are you always trying to set me up. I am completely content with my life for now."
"I'm only mean because I'm your best friend. I have the right to treat you like crap for no particular reason what so ever." She says and I laugh. "You should really get back out there. You're a really great woman and your beautiful, well sometimes." She continues and I kick her leg from under the table and she yells a loud ow.
