Once my saxophone was taken away, school was my only goal, really as I had nothing else to fight for. Thankfully I had my friends, Fauna and Tyler, to have last good times on middle school. Many memories were made, mostly on the band, but we had other good times. After a while we graduated, we both were going to a new high school we a great band program, yet I felt I was going just to play with them, and for me. The band program even though great, it was very lenient with who they admit to play, and also being not very competitive so I felt I was going for my friends, but since I had no saxophone I had no other option. So I didn't compromise with that, so I took a couple of summer jobs to get some money and be able to at least get half. The price of the instrument. During the summer I learned about this kinda local band with was getting some high praise. Getting last two years in a row to the state championships, after years of never getting out of the local races.
This band/orchestra was getting praise for there incredible music, but most importantly their director a renounced music professor who is a master of most instruments which makes him stand out from the rest as he not just direct but can make all the instruments shine by playing to there strength. Although there are rumors of his extreme regimes were he almost never gives second chances. One wrong move and you are out. So I was sold. A band that is incredibly hard and good in the competitions. So I worked as hard as I could to get as much money to get my saxophone of choice.
I did everything from from packing groceries, to dog walking. Finally a got to around 300 dollars, which seemed like a lot until I searched the saxophone. I saw some for around 200 yet they seemed not that good a really cheap looking. Having some "crazy" colors just to be more eye catching. Instead of having some kind of real quality. The selection process was even harder as it took around a 1000 dollars to get one that was worth it. I didn't took long to find that was perfect. It was silver saxophone, with keys that shine all over the place. The video demonstration showed a soft and gentle sound that made the instrument more beautiful. And a design of flower inserted on the bell. Sadly it was way out out of my budget. Around 1500 dollars. I was definitely devastated, such a perfect fit, but it was way to much for just a young musician. My dad found one similar that was half the price, so I put my 300 and he gave me the rest. So I got this silver saxophone with a bird pattern on the bell, a bit less shiny but still amazing. The sound had so low points, like the lower notes which sounded a bit funny. Although some practice would make it work out. Although it was really neat having a saxophone one that I could call my own.
A few weeks passed and I read on the newspaper that the new season auditions were opening in a couple of weeks. The article talked about the day and hour of the trials, but what mostly matters that we had to play to pieces one that was assigned and one personal choice. The personal choice could be anything ranging from popular culture to classical music, the prefixed song was the spring theme from the four seasons masterpiece by the great composer Antonio Vivaldi. Personally the hole ensemble is one of my favorite, but the spring theme was a strange part to be selected. Why not the hole piece, or another song entirely. It made no sense to play only one song. It's just a part of a much grander masterpiece, but right I had to start practicing. As I had never really played the song, even though it's one of favorites I had no real interest in playing it.
I chose a piece that had some value to me so I, so i tried out ode to joy, it was really, and also because I had really no time to put to songs together. So I went with the song that got me here. I also wondered the weeks were I practiced what is the point of putting together some song of choice, to show what really if I was selecting a song, it would barely show anything of importance, it has almost any worth if at all.
The weeks passed and I practices hard, and my time and efforts were all destined to making the cut, but I wanted more so I told my two friends if they wanted to try to get in the, since they had bought instruments for their own before we had to the school ones back. When it came time to tell them only one week before the auditions we had a different exchange from the one I wanted:
