My heart skipped a beat. My mailbox had a single, gold emblazoned, pressed, pristine white envelope protruding from it. The letter. The letter that held my summoning date. My choice was coming. It was coming. I ran my fingers over my name, Tiana Eve Quinn. I slowly began to scale the mountain of stairs to my room, when an earsplitting scream echoed through the long hallways of my apartment complex.
"YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!" The scream was the perfect combination of loud, piercing, and high pitched that it shattered your hearing and made you want to gouge your own eyes out.
"TIAAAAAAAAAAAAAANA! I GOT MY LETTTTTTTER! TIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANA!" shrieked Holly. Holly, my best friend in the entire world, and the person who really needed to quiet down.
"TIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANA!" She shrieked once more. Oh well, my peace had lasted long enough.
"Quit shouting Holly, and get your butt over here now!" I stage whispered down the hall, because I am at least a little discreet. I opened my apartment's door, and walked inside.
Soon Holly came bursting through the door with her ever-present complete confidence and her shoulder length, dirty blond pony tail swinging behind her like a javelin, warning people not to get too close.
"Well?!?" Holly asked, eyes practically bugging out of her head. "Did you get a letter?!?"
"Yes. Yes I did." I replied carefully.
"Oh come on! You have to tell me more!"
"Fine, I haven't opened it yet." The look Holly gave me as I related this fact could've melted bone.
"Really? You DIDN'T open it on sight? HOW? "
"I... was waiting for you!" I lied through my teeth.
"Reeeeeally? Did you reeeeally?" Holly asked, with one eyebrow quirked, but I think she already knew the answer.
"Mayyyyyybe," I replied conspiratorially.
"Okay, fine then open it now!" She said with a gigantic grin spreading across her face.
"Fine then."
My fingers began to tremble as I carefully opened the envelope. Soon the paper inside could be seen, I slowly pulled it out.
