When I woke later, shivering and sweating, I was surprised to feel a little more rested than I had lately and the pain had ceased. Quickly, I changed out of my wrinkled clothes into a plain black t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. I twisted my wristband around so that the clasp was on the inside of my wrist again. It tended to twist around the wrong way. My vision was so terrible that everything was just hazy blurs. I grabbed my glasses off the nightstand and the earpiece everyone wore so we could communicate with each other no matter where we were on the huge Helicarrier, and went to find where everyone was.
Natasha, Tony, Steve, Bruce, Thor and Director Fury were in Bruce's laboratory. They were arguing, though not yelling. My eyes found the big gun on the table next to them, something meant to be powered by a huge force and realized what they were arguing about. It was a weapon meant to be powered by the Tesseract. S.H.I.E.L.D. was creating super weapons. I caught bits and pieces from the arguing people.
Apparently, when the Destroyer from Thor's world came to Earth and almost leveled a whole town, they realized they weren't alone in the universe and were seriously outgunned. They had been trying to create weapons that stood a chance against enemies like Loki. Steve and Dr. Banner didn't like this idea and apparently Natasha already knew about it, but didn't have an opinion on the matter. This was probably because she strictly focused on her jobs and did not worry over S.H.I.E.L.D. matters that did not concern her. It seemed like Tony wasn't too fond of the idea and I didn't blame him. He already had a run in with how good intentions can backfire when dangerous weapons you create fall into the wrong hands. While everyone was arguing, Bruce was getting more and more agitated, but it seemed as if I was the only one who noticed.
"Your work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki to it and his allies. It is the signal to all the realms that Earth is ready for a higher form of war." Thor pointed out.
"A higher form?" Steve asked disbelievingly.
"You forced our hand. We had to come up with something." Director Fury defended himself.
Tony scoffed. "Nuclear deterrent, because that always calms everything right down."
"Remind me again how you made your fortune, Stark?"
"I'm sure if he still made weapons, Stark would be neck deep..." Steve said before Tony could reply.
"Wait, wait! Hold on! How is this now about me?"
"I'm sorry, isn't everything?" Steve asked a little too innocently.
"I thought humans were more evolved than this." Thor muttered.
Director Fury turned on Thor. "Excuse me, did we come to your planet and blow stuff up?"
"Do you always give your champions such mistrust?
"Are you all really that naive? S.H.I.E.L.D. monitors threats." Natasha tried to back up her boss.
Bruce snickered. "Captain America is on the potential threat watch list?"
"You're on that list? Are you above or below angry bees?" Tony smirked, going along with Bruce.
Steve growled, seething. "I swear to God Stark, one more crack..."
"Threatening, I feel threatened!"
"You speak of control, yet you court chaos." Thor shook his head disappointedly at Director Fury.
"What are we, a team? No, no, no. We're a chemical mixture that makes chaos. We're... we're a time bomb." Bruce exclaimed, his agitation showing clearer than before.
"You need to step away." Director Fury warned him.
Tony wrapped an arm around Steve's shoulders. "Why shouldn't the guy let off a little steam?"
